I've always liked:
"Government is not the solution to our problem. Government *is* the problem." ~ Ronald Reagan
and
Remember that a government big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take away everything you have. ~ Barry Goldwater

There have been many great conservative quotes over the years yet socialism inexorably increases.

"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -- P.J. O'Rourke What does this statement has to do with conservatism?
As formulated, this is a thought of an anarchist.

I like the wonderfully conservative remark Rush Limbaugh made today.
Not quoting him verbatim, I heard him say that instead of the Liberals and the rest of the world telling us what’s wrong with the United States, the exceptional United States should point out what’s wrong with them and offer to help fix what’s wrong, but, if the criticism keeps coming, don’t blame us for what happens to them!
We need a few hundred Rush Limbaughs in our government instead of the Communists and their useful idiots that are running it now.

Here is one I read that seems appropriate:

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters." ascribed to several - I believe Daniel Webster is the correct source
