GWEN IFILL: Has this been damaging to your campaign?
SEN. BARACK OBAMA: Oh, you know, I would say that it has been a distraction from the core message of our campaign. I think that part of what has always been the essence of my politics -- not just this campaign, but my life -- is the idea that we've got to bring people together.
Now, part of that is biographical, as somebody who comes from a diverse background, with a white mother and an African-American father, growing up in Hawaii and Asia. You know, it's in my DNA to believe that all of us have something fundamental in common, and that's part of what makes America so special.

I was trolling thru the DU and came across this little item from PBS's NewsHour. Obama's reference to his "African-American" father is just another example of how poorly he performs without a prepared script.

In what sense was Barack Obama Sr. ever an American? African, yes; African-American, not so much.

and an African-American father I guess he means Reverend Wright, who seems to be the only real "father figure" in his life.

Yeah Obama, but weren't your white relatives just “typical” white people,—”white folk”, you wrote in your book— “inbred” with inappropriate racial sentiments? And don't you still belong to that racist, exclusivist church?

I will just add, that it was Obama's 20 years of attendance to a racist hate-church that made the debate about race. And if the debate is about race, Obama loses.

it's in my DNA to believe... DNA, race, "typical white person" - clues to where Obama is coming from? Didn't the German racialists have similar theories about the predominance of DNA in influencing one's thoughts and behavior?

if b. HUSSEIN is an african-american ~ let him be an american running for president of africa!!!
To: VRWCtaz
I read here somewhere that he is 1/16 african and 7/16 arab.(and 1/2 moonbat)
If that is true, he is Arab/American (moonbat).
Perhaps the correct designation is A/M

Of course it is about “race” since Fog-Horn-Leghorn Wright made it about race. Obama says he wants to see “the races coming together”. Seventeen-years of hallalullha to this Black Racist “so called” Reverend proves Obama a liar.
I am scared for our country. Black Liberation Theology is now exposed as mainstream. Two weeks ago I was blind. Thanks to Rev. Wright and his rabid flock, including the Obamas, now I see and I will vote MCCAIN.

His mother was the American Moonbat. The other 50% is divided into 16’s as a result of grand parents. (I assume. The referenced post did not specifically say that.)

"Two weeks ago I was blind." That's kind of the way I feel. Although it's a self imposed blindness. I've always known there were radical black racists out there (Calypso Louie's NOI comes to mind) but I looked at them as a fringe element that could be dismissed as a small deviant percentage. I'm being forced to reevaluate my views.

His quote from the OP has him referring to his father as African-American. That was my initial point.
"...with a white mother and an African-American father..."
