I read your post. I understand that I am lucky to be able to do what I do and that there are many people out there who would like to homeschool but can't because of financial situations. My husband and I are a long way from rich but we are flexible. We "tag team". He goes to work while I teach the girls and then he comes home and I go to work.

It irritates me that people come into these threads and tell me that I'm arrogant. Believe me, I've got nothing to be arrogant about. I'm disorganized, my house is in a consistent state of disarray and yet, despite me - my kids are learning something.

My 1st grader is doing 2nd grade Math. Does that sound like I'm bragging? I guess it would to a parent who puts their child in public school and visits these threads. But to me, it's amazing. When I told my Dad that we were going to homeschool he told me I was going to screw my kids up. So yes, I am proud and excited and amazed that *I* am teaching my kids and they are learning from *me*. But that in no way makes me arrogant.

It doesn't sound like you are bragging - just stating a fact.

But, those of us that send our kids to public schools can also take pride in their accomplishments. My younger child is the Valedictorian of her graduating class. She did it while being a Varsity athlete, a top 5 state ranked musician, and while taking 12 AP courses with a 4.0+ GPA.

We consider ourselves lucky also that we had the financial means to live in a good school district and the spiritual knowledge to keep her (and her sister) on the right path.

You won't screw your kids up. Good parents know instinctively what is best for their little ones.

Good luck - I'm sure s/he will continue to do well! It's a fun journey

I didn’t say *you* were arrogant and sorry if it came off that way.

It’s the same with any thread about teachers (good and bad), public schools, etc. Some homeschoolers come onto a public school thread and trash the parents who send their kids to public schools. We don’t care, we abuse our kids, blah blah blah. Like the libs, those posters don’t take into account that we’re not stupid, the masses they need to educate, etc. Homeschooling is fine alternative to public, catholic and private schooling. But it’s an alternative and not for everyone for whatever reasons.

I’m blessed to have a fantastic Catholic grade school and fantastic public high school my kids can and do attend. I’m blessed that I was able to attend college and grad school, have two master degrees. I’m blessed that my husband made enough money for me to be a stay at home mom for 13 years. I’m blessed that my kids are smart, athletic, kind.

I don’t shove any of my beliefs down anyone’s throat like some posters.

My oldest scored in the 96%tile on her SATs and is in all honors/AP classes in the public high school. She’s going to major in engineering in college. Is that bragging? She’s an accomplished athlete on a competitive high school team and could possibly have scholarship offers just for her sport. She could get a *free ride* for academics or athletics or music. Is that bragging? Her soph sister, the same. The 6th grader, not so much for academics but she’s a solid A/B student but rockin athlete in 5 sports. Youngest is like oldest two, academics and sports. And they attend catholic grade and public high school. And, they’re all practicing Catholics so far.

the point, their schools are good but their home life is good and the latter is what matters. They didn’t succumb to any *indoctrination* and yet still succeed like they will in college.

Homeschooling, public schooling, catholic/private schooling, isn’t for everyone which is why it’s so great we all have the freedom to choose.

see how that works?
