Wow, an awful lot happened on March 23 throughout history...clearly the most important of which is Titanic winning 11 Oscars.

No. The most important was my being born. *\;-) (Well, after Patrick Henry’s speech...)

More important than a movie about a ship sinking, at least for those directly affected, was an actual sinking of a ship. According to The World Almanac, on March 23, 1908, exactly 100 years ago today, the Japanese steamer Matsu Maru sank near Hakodate, Japan, with the loss of 300 lives. Hakodate is on the island of Hokkaido.

The United States 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, in a 2-1 decision, refuses to order the reinsertion of Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube.

Why does it matter where Patric Henry was on my birthday?

It was also his birthday, I believe. Besides which, if I recall the book correctly, it was also the date of his “Liberty or Death” speech. I used to read that book to my daughter when she was little.

Ugh! That was the worst movie of all times.
