Mayor Gordon
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon bristled Monday at the way Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio sent deputies on saturation patrols in an east Phoenix neighborhood during the Easter weekend.
Arpaio sent sheriffs deputies to the area of East Thomas Road and North 32nd Street after business owners contacted him to complain about day laborers loitering and committing petty crimes. Sheriffs deputies patrolled the area, issued traffic citations and arrested illegal immigrants they came across.Gordon said he hopes Arpaio will notify Phoenix Police officials before conducting similar operations in the future.
The sheriff has concurrent jurisdiction we certainly acknowledge that but for whatever reason, the communication in advance and the coordination in advance has not occurred and Im very concerned about the safety of his officers and our officers, Gordon said before a press conference on a different topic at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The Maricopa County Sheriffs Office action also could be turning the Hispanic community against law enforcement in general, Gordon said.
We need everyone to testify against violent criminals murderers, drug dealers, burglars. And the reports that Im getting from many Police Departments is that a good segment of the Hispanic community is afraid to go out and testify, Gordon said.
Oh, you mean those
violent criminals murderers, drug dealers, burglars ?
Thank God for sheriff Joe. The mayor is pi$$ing up a rope.
That wouldn't be as big an issue is they entered the country legally.
What an example for the rest of nation Phil “Clueless” Gordon is.
“Im very concerned about the safety of his officers and our officers...”
I don’t get it. Is he saying that the Sheriff’s deputies might shoot the City’s police officers? Or that the City’s police officers might shoot the Sheriff’s deputies?
Or is he just babbling because he’s a jerk?
Let's hope he's pissing into the wind.
He reminds me of somebody but at the moment the face escapes me.
George Stephanopoulous.
Ding, Ding!!! we have a winner.
A whiny moron?
“but for whatever reason, the communication in advance and the coordination in advance has not occurred”
Hmm. Could it be that the sheriff suspects that the mayor and his bunch have been tipping off the perps in advance of the action?
‘Afraid to go out and testify.’ — WAIT, that was the whole whine about why we SHOULD have Sanctuary Cities, etc. So that the good folks would not be afraid to testify against the bad folks.
Are SC not working then? No. Are the ‘good folks’ still afraid? Maybe they are bad. Are the ‘bad folks’ actually getting reported? I think not.
ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES..
....Gordon vs. Arpaio .....
night and day?

He looks like another left-wing jackhole, Tim Robbins.
Got a problem? Call the Sheriff. Don’t bother the Phoenix PD.
Joe for about three days was on radio and tv telling everyone that he was going to clean up that area so everybody was put on notice.
The Maricopa County Sheriffs Office action also could be turning the Hispanic community against law enforcement in general, Gordon said.
**If a law enforcement officer doing his sworn duty, that which the citizens pay him, for turns anyone against the Police, then that person or group was likely against the police to start with.**
**Sounds to me from reading the story that the Mayor is not or has not been doing his job and is simply ticked that someone else had the audacity to actually do what the voters and taxpayers require of them.**
Indeed only pastier!
Im very concerned about the safety of his officers and our officers...
I dont get it. Is he saying that the Sheriffs deputies might shoot the Citys police officers? Or that the Citys police officers might shoot the Sheriffs deputies?
Or is he just babbling because hes a jerk?
**Let’s go with number 3**
Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a hero & I wish we had more men like him!
but for whatever reason, the communication in advance and the coordination in advance has not occurred
Hmm. Could it be that the sheriff suspects that the mayor and his bunch have been tipping off the perps in advance of the action?
Whoah.. A Politician that would play both sides of the law?
Are you seriosu? Nah nevers happens in this Country.......
If Arizona is like most states, the Sheriff has supreme jurisdiction within his county. Were I sheriff there, I would not notify the city either. They would tip off the crooks.
“three days was on radio and tv telling everyone that he was going to clean up that area “
Well, if he spoke in English, I would guess most of the criminal aliens didn’t get the word.
a longshot; Carl Sagan?
Looks like the Mayor was up late with Johnnie Walker and his brothers Blackie and Red.
End of story, right there.
SHERIFF JOE FOR V.P. ~!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe Sheriff Joe should arrest the people aiding and abetting?
Here is Texas the Sheriff is the supreme LEO of the county. Police chiefs are paper tigers appointed to do the city council and mayors’ grunt work.
Try this translation: either start telling the Mayor where and when the raids are taking place so he can tip the illegals, or the Phoenix PD might just happen to be "a little busy" if a raid goes bad and they suddenly need some back-up.
LOL!
Doing the job that the mayor won’t do.
Hizzhonor da mayor is the first to be younger than say 90....
Living in the Phoenix area, there are some twists and turns to this situation.
1) There are no whopping big Mexican parts of town in Phoenix. Typically, Mexicans, legal and illegal who live here, are dispersed, and US citizens and illegals are indistinguishable from one another. Legals do NOT like to be lumped in with illegals, and I can’t blame them for that.
2) Because of the new Arizona employer law, most of the illegals entering the State, the #1 entry area, are coming to safe houses, where they stay for a while before leaving the State. Just a week or two ago, a few of these safe houses were busted and caught 700 illegals.
3) Day labor here is an utter mess. It has legals and illegals. Only one city in the metro area has a place for them to legally congregate, however, so the rest have to cluster together at home supply stores and the like, if they want to get work. While the businesses don’t like it, the workers have no other choice.
4) Integration for illegals is much faster here than say in California, because Mexicans have to integrate just to get by. So it is not uncommon to meet an illegal teenager or adult who has lived here since infancy and is wholly Americanized, graduating from high school or college, speaks English more fluently than Spanish, and has no connections at all with Mexico. Mixed legal and illegal families abound. The only difference is the paperwork.
5) There was a disastrous “roundup” in 1997, in Chandler, part of metro Phoenix. The best way to describe it was utter chaos, with local police and immigration officers ignoring most of the law, charging through homes without warrants, stopping any non-white citizens on the street repeatedly, and basically behaving like it was a martial law disaster. It resulted in a huge lawsuit and a $20 million settlement, and took years of apologies to everybody else for the relatively few illegals who were caught.
6) Sheriff Arpaio is a major pain in the butt to Arizona law enforcement. He is a publicity hound, and for every good idea has a half dozen really bad ideas. Even though he is perhaps the most popular politician in Arizona, he is also ruthless in using his office for political purposes. More than anything else, he wants to radically change a job that nobody particularly thought needed radical change.
The mayor is annoyed with him as well as the Chief of the Phoenix Police Department, because he is on their turf and creating havoc out of what is a fairly minor problem and easily solved. Arresting illegals is pretty routine work, no reason to make an embarrassing three ring circus out of it. You ask for their papers, and if they don’t have them, you tell them to get on the ICE bus for Nogales. They usually get on the bus with no argument. Happens every day.
Okay, using that theory, you should completely redecorate your house, whether or not it needs complete redecoration. It should not matter to you if it doesn’t need a complete redecoration, because radical change for the sake of change is good. And yes, you get to pay for it as well.
That is, there was no great and glorious problem with the Sheriff’s department before Joe Arpaio showed up, and decided to radically change things. And, for all his changes, little has really changed. There is still about the same level of crime, criminals are still put in jail, and eventually they are released.
However, in the process, Joe has alienated the rest of the police departments in the State, several countries will no longer extradite criminals to face punishment here, because of Joe’s “cruel and unusual” punishments, and even the Germans call Joe a “Nazi”, because of some of his antics.
He has not improved things, and has embarrassed us all. And, yes, he is the most popular politician in Arizona.
But, like Barack Obama, he stands for “change”, so he must be good.
the Mexican consul? He sure has the rhetoric down pat.
Many great suggestions for Phil Gordon look-alike.
Ping!
Poor Phil...they’re criminals, Mr. Mayor!
He is barking up the wrong tree. The Sheriff will stand his ground.
Bump!
In other words, the mayor would like the opportunity to warn the illegals that the sheriff is coming.
Heh. Gordon looks a lot like McGreevey.
I bet their fear will lessen considerably as Sheriff Joe Arpaio continues to get rid of the gangs, criminals, and other illegals.
Sheriff Joe doing the job our government refuses to do.
If the Phoenix PD won't do the job, the citizens have the right to call in the sheriff's department who will. It is that simple. This poor excuse for a mayor needs to be voted out of office.
