Local woman pulls gun on deliverymen for not taking off shoes

Two furniture deliverymen fled a home after a customer produced a gun because they wouldn't take their shoes off, according to police reports.

Two employees of Howell's Furniture Gallery were making a delivery to a house in the 5300 of Downs Road last Friday afternoon, the report stated.

The homeowner, who was not identified, asked the deliverymen to take off their shoes.

They replied removing their shoes was against company policy and pointed out they were wearing protective covers so as not to damage her carpet, the report stated.

An argument ensued, which expanded to cover other problems the woman had with the store, and the woman got a handgun.

The delivery men told police she never pointed the gun at them, but they left anyway and called police.

I delivered furniture, had similar experience. I worked alone, made me take off shoes, but could not take wheels off dolly.
Lady of the house did not realize until I had dragged across snow white carpet how ludicrous her request appeared.

I work in wrought iron for spiral and swept stairs, entryways, balconies, and stuff like that - between power plant repair jobs. It is funny being the only person in the house wearing steel-toed boots, welding and grinding and burning iron above a marble or granite floor and expensive carpet ... when everybody else is tiptoeing around wearing their socks.

Floor protection is a hassle, but (most of the time) nothing burns.

I had an ancestor whose last name was Butcher. His wife didn’t like the way the name was pronounced. She insisted that in her hearing the name was to be pronounced Booshay’. Everybody went along with it too.

Friends had built a new house with pink carpeting - builder was sending workers over to fix something after they moved in. Wife asked if he could have his guys remove their shoes so as to not track dirt - he agreed, but pointed out that he couldn’t guarantee that their socks would be any cleaner than their boots were.

(Did I mention that this was in Florida???)

On one occasion, I entered a house for an appointment and the Lady insisted I remove my shoes. She provided a pair of slippers for me to wear during my visit (no harm/no foul).

I assumed this was some sort of religious requirement...which religions do not allow shoes in the house?

The local PBS station shows her on saturday nights, we catch it when we can. Onslow is my hero. I can’t find one of them FH hats like the one he wears (It’s some austrailian trucking company)

Almost as good as being in a multi million dollar home, jackhammering those floors, with the resulting dust covering all of the furnishings and artwork, all to get to a slab leak.

After posting earlier , thought of another funny one.
New house, dead of winter, raining.
I had delivery to said house, front entrance unusable, was told to go around back. Back yard sloped off to ravine, drove truck into back, almost slid into ravine.
Being arrogant, delivery cannot get worse, it did.
I went to pull box off truck, lost footing, regained footing got box off truck. standing box upright, located entrance to abode.
Went to put handcart under box, managed that, went to pull handcart back to move box to entry.
Footing went, handcart and box ended on top of me, crawled out from under, tried to right both, lost footing again.
Fell in puddle, covered in mud. Called office for assistance, received assistance in form of salesman, wearing Italian loafers.
Salesman useless, salesman laughing at situation, got box upright. Dragged to entrance of house, no stoop.
Lay drop cloths down to protect white carpet.
Lift said furniture into room over 3 ft stoop.
setup, get out with some dignity.
Did I forget to mention family was watching me slipping and sliding around back yard, whole time.
I kaugh now,but was embarrassed at time.
Learned humility, also impossible situations happen,better to reschedule.

A lot of people have a no shoes rules in the house.
We do.. not because we are worried about our builders grade carpet, but because it is the wife's Finnish culture.

One more and time for sleep.
Went to deliver furniture to house being remodeled. Arrive I am shown where said furniture is to be located.
I am doing my thing,unboxing and setting up, I am on tight schedule.
Lady of the house, comes to me says lunch is served, I decline as I have more deliveries. She will not take no. I look to those who are working, they all break, one comes to me, tells me I have no choice. Basically her house her rules.
I have lunch,finish my setup, thank hostess and I am on my way.
Life is strange, customer is always right.
I chuckle now, but I am the person I am because of past experience.

I don’t know, but I’m sure there is one!
