LOS ANGELES (AP) - As he outlines his foreign policy goals, John McCain is drawing a sharp contrast to the past eight years under President Bush.
Speaking today in Los Angeles, McCain called for the United States to work more collegially with democratic allies and to live up to its duties as a world leader.
He told the Los Angeles World Affairs Council that the nation's "great power" doesn't entitle it to do whatever it wants, or to assume that it has "all the wisdom and knowledge necessary to succeed."
McCain is signaling to world leaders that he plans to end an era of what critics have called cowboy diplomacy under Bush.
McCain is also offering a renewed defense of his support for a continued U.S. military mission in Iraq. He says both Democratic candidates are seeking a path that he says would "eventually draw us into a wider and more difficult war."

This was an utterly disgusting speech. Just when McCain had some momentum, he’s reminded conservatives why we shouldn’t vote for him.
Rush said he sounds like the haughty one John Kerry.
Rush is playing excerpts of his speech now.
Collaboration with “allied democracy.” Read: surrender of leadership & sovreignty.
Fight global warming. Read: hug & kiss algore. Destroy our economy.
Sheesh, I know hillary is toast and Obama would be awful, but is this the best we can do?
The Hanoi Hilton guards gave him one too many shots to the head.
I am going to read the speech instead of relying on the LA Times to tell me what he said or Rush to tell me how to think.
I think people here need to do the same. Context is important and I do not trust the same media that is lambasted daily on FR to tell me what he said.
I did not see the speech, so we always have to take the MSM’s reportage with some salt.
see post 9.
this does not bode well ..
look how well it’s worked in Kaleeeeforniiijaa
everybody in the hot tub,, kumbayyyaaa
Our best hope is for enough folks to raise heck at the convention and ask why we are nominating the leftist media’s ‘favorite’ candidate and open the convention up.. our country deserves and needs better than this crop of hosers.
Republicans if they were smart would throw this election to the Dems and let them take the blame in this election cycle and start over and work towards a much better non-RINO and non-RNC conservative candidate for 2012.
When I hear a candidate say (and this is from memory):
We must recognize the threat of global warming, and recognize that danger of global warming knows no borders. We must take every step to limit the production of greenhouse gases and accept a cap and trade system.
I’m not going to be happy about it. I don’t see how that’s “out of context.”
Given the complete incompetancy of both Hillary and Obama, I - for one brief, fleeting moment - thought that I might hold my nose and vote for McCain. Thankfully, he has destroyed the moment. McKennedy, er McKerry, er, McA**hole will not get my vote. Guess I won’t vote at all.
Translation:
McCain is going to open the border to all countries, not just Mexico.
Where are you going to read it? They have a version online that was issued before he spoke, but I can’t find an actual transcript.
and with McCain, niether does the US
