Obama Defends Wright's Reputation, Not Words Candidate Talks About Race, Economy and Democratic Nomination Battle By JENNIFER PARKER

March 27, 2008 —

Sen. Barack Obama believes the Democratic race is about more than race.

But it's that subject that has been driving the recent political conversation surrounding one of the mostly hotly contested nomination fights in many years.

"If all I saw of Rev. Wright & were the 30-second or one-minute clips that have been looped over the last two weeks again and again as opposed to the body of work for 30 years that he engaged in in building a church that is a pillar of the community on the South Side [of Chicago]," Obama told ABC News anchor Charlie Gibson, referring to the controversy that erupted over incendiary remarks by his pastor of 20 years.

"It's as if we took the five dumbest things that I ever said or you ever said & in our lives and compressed them, and put them out there, you know, I think that people's reaction would be understandably upset."

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retired pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

An ABC News review of dozens of Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the United States based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America,

I can agree with Barry on that. I would have to include anti-Americanism as well as anti-Semitism.

No matter what Osama Hussein Obama has to say about Pastor Anti-semitic Wright, it ain’t gonna fly. He’s wasting his breath and looking more like a fool every day. Cats out of the bag and it ain’t going back. Next up, a rectal exam for both him and his wife on their past remarks.

Don’t words and reputation go hand in hand?

Obama needs to quit talking about and defending Wright. Maybe he feels guilty.

It’s not about race. It’s about qualifications and judgment.

Obama has neither.

Obama gave the lunatic racist crackpot Wright $27,500 in 2005 and 2006. That constitutes an endorsement of Wright’s lunatic views.

Wright's an idiot. Bigger prison's and "more three-strike laws" translates into fewer criminals on the streets.

Few criminals killing our children,

robbing our stores,

and breaking into our homes.

For most of us, it's a good thing to have fewer criminals.

For the likes of a racist like Rev Wright, it might just mean fewer people to attend his "church"?

How does one condemn a person’s words but defend a person’s reputation (which is based upon those words) at the same time?

“Yeah, he’s like my crazy-ass old uncle that says stupid divisive things with which I vehemently disagree...but he is an esteemed member of the community, don’tcha know.”

It ain’t workin’, Obama. But that’s OK, you just keep talking yourself deeper and deeper into that hole of yours...

An ABC News review of dozens of Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the United States based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

Or as ABC might have put it: "After reviewing every available recorded serman of Rev. Wright sold on the church's web site, many dozen in number, we could not find a single example of a sermon which did not charge the United States with crimes of a bizarre nature against the African American community-- not a single one."

Barack Obama is a liar -- flat out. "if you took the 4 or 5 dumbest things he ever said"-- well, THAT would be one of them. Jumping Jerry did not say four or five dumb things in his career-- He said that many EVERY SUNDAY. Wright is a bigot, and the fact Obama doesn't think so, proves he is a bigot as well.

Barack Obama is a bigot and a liar.

Isn’t this just the tip of the iceberg? I was hearing stuff recently about Rezko, Kaynes(spelling) and some other Illinois power broker that ended up funneling money to terrorist.. Has that panned out?

..."If all I saw of Rev. Wright & were the 30-second or one-minute clips that have been looped over the last two weeks again and again ..."

...er...these were the clips that Mr. Wright chose to put out there on his 'greatest hits' DVD. I can only presume that Mr. Wright is most proud of these 'sermons' (or, more accurately put, spue-fests). They were not filmed surreptitiously, they were sold by this tucc facility as some of Mr. Wright's 'best' work...

In addition, it isn't just the obnoxious hatred that Mr. Wright preached from the pulpit -- its also the tucc's 'membership statement' ('About Us'). Nothing to cause you to believe that it was an actual church - a place of worship of the Almighty God - but a lot to convince you that its members focused on race worship.

My conclusion: Mr. Obama doesn't understand because he's apparently steeped in race politics himself - nor does he care to engage in Christian worship.
His 'church' membership was simply a political stepping stone - not due to an active desire to worship the LORD.

I don't believe Mr. Obama will ever understand why his membership in this facility for 20 years is perceived by many as being akin to being a long-time member in the Klan or an Aryan identity group. And how it is double odious by its claim to be a church of Christ.
His shoulder-shrug responses (if I could paraphrase: 'yeah, some of the rhetoric might have been a wee bit overboard - but Mr. Wright is a pillar of the community I tell ya. I real pillar...') speaks volumes.

On the same day the Jumping Jerry Wright scandal broke, or maybe the day after, Obama called the 2 Chicago papers and told them he would respond to some questions about Rezko—the papers had been after him for some time on this. He told the papers his relationship with Rezko had been longer and closer than previously disclosed—and he had received more $$ from Rezko as well. About $120,000 as I recall. The big blast over the Wright stuff over shadowed the new revelations.

Thanks, yeh I’m trying to find what I was reading. It was about how the money Rezko and others gave was for political favors and state money that ended up going to Terrorists..

So it was bigger than just his relationship with Rezko.

Sorry, I hate to post without having the link in front of me, but the thread I was on had a link to a HuffPost article in which the Libs where freakin about this being used in the general election.

Hope I’m remembering this correctly.. Off to search.

KMA, Obama!

Don Imus has been on the radio for over 40 years. A lot more speaking and preaching to 10,000 times the size of Wright's audience. One (1) gaff got him kick off!
