A dying 10 yr. old child is the subject of this thread. The father is in a minimum security prison and is due to be released in August. He could be given a furlough to spend the last days comforting this little girl as she passes on. I can't be as heartless and sanctimonious as some have been about this case. This man has not only been punished by the law and now he will receive the greatest heartbreak a human being can endure, the lose of a child. If you have never experienced it or had someone close to you endure it I can assure you it is a pain greater than anything that could be administered by the state.

I understand all this, but am pointing out that if prisons make it a rule to do this it could get out of hand. A lot of prisoners could be wanting to go visit their child (and why should this be limited to their children?). How long do we let them go visit for? How many times do they get to go? What's the cost in providing escorts? We have millions in prison at any given time, how would we manage such a program on a large scale?
