SANTA ROSA - A boy in his mid-teens learned Wednesday afternoon that it is not a good idea to try to rob a former U.S. Marine at knifepoint, even if the former Marine is 84 years old, police said today.

I guess the Marine was feeling very friendly that day. He did not even make sure the boy was held for police.

But, then, given the state of the juvenal crime system, why bother?

Definitely not a Murtha Marine. Given the location, I hope they don’t charge him with child abuse.

It is usually a very bad idea to commit multiple felonies, even when a teen.

Reminds me of the scene in Hildago when the Yank gets the arab thief on the ground and just as Omar Sharif’s character is about to smite him, Viggo Mortensens character stops him, puts his spur on the guy’s neck, looks at the Sultan ( or whatever he was called ) and said to him, this is what is called the Mexican Tatto..a spur blade to the neck..

The little prick will be singer Soprano for the rest of his life. A nice dress would also do.

A younger Marine would have kicked him twice, one to disable him, and the second one to remind him that he picked on a Marine.

My son, a veteran of Iraq, would have either shot him, arrested him, or made him eat his balls.

HOORAH!

Great story, but these headlines drive me nuts! Former Marine? The man is 84 years old!

It's just lazy writing. Any time there is a person in the news that was EVER in the Marine Corps, no matter what the story is about and how irrelevant the person formerly being in the Marines is to the story, the newspapers always says "former Marine." Sheesh, it's just dumb.

It's the same lazy writing that identifies EVERY woman that has ever given birth, no matter how old they are, as a "mom."

Examples:

Kansas City Marine, 84, elected to city council.

Louisville mom, 72, elected to city council.

It is medias not so subtle way of disapproving of subject of article.
Same way that repubs are identified in title of article, and first para.
Dems are identified if at all at end of article.
When reading these types of articles, I just assume will be biased, then adjust for said bias.
Also when politician is identified w/o party affiliation, I immediately assume that it is dem. I am rarely wrong in my assessment.

Also headlines that say former (armed forces personel, cop, mom)beats perp, crack me up.
I have to read just to find out how old “former” is that beatup younger perp. And also how much damage was done to said perp.
The more the merrier in my opinion.

Proof again of Cobra’s corollary #7....

Cobra’s Corollary Number Seven

Other then the words “United States” nothing should be attached to the Front of Marine, and only Veteran should follow when describing all Marines not presently serving in uniform. Someone alert the press to this decision so that they can correct themselves.

The real title of this story should be “84 year old Marine Veteran crushes teen mugger testicles during failed robbery

Leaves attempted robber writhing in pain in the middle of the street”

As much as it pains me to say it, Murtha is a Marine Veteran, but then again so is Lee Harvey Oswald.

Being a Marine means you have to recognize all that have earned the title, no matter what evils they may do in their lives and it is painful to do so.

That doesn’t mean I respect him for what he has done since he left the Corps or have to respect what he has become only that I respect what he once was before he strayed......

IMHO, you can go so far that all the good you have done, and all the worthwhile things that you achieved are negated. The best examples that comes to mind is Benedict Arnold who was a hero before he betrayed our struggling nation. Or Cunningham, former Vietnam War Ace, now a corrupt politician, and jailbird.

I think that Murtha has achieved that level of depravity. Whatever good he did as Marine is entirely negated by his treasonous behavior as a politician.

Benedict Arnold is the archetype for a traitor, Cunningham is a jailbird and a corrupt politician, not an Ace, and Murtha is an ex-Marine.
