It’s unthinkable to me that she’ll drop out. And if the Obama people continue alienating her supporters (the number who say they will vote Republican instead has increased 10% in the last month) then the Denver convention will be a food fight of jaw-dropping proportions.
She will make a fuss about Michigan and Florida. Michigan and Florida will send their delegates. They will demand to be seated. Democrat leaders will have to choose between seating them, or telling them to get lost. There comes a time when just saying “But you moved your contest forward 1 week too early!!!” won’t be adequate to address the issue. Especially if Al Gore gets involved, will he back Obama against the Florida vote, or say the Florida vote should count since that’s what the evil evil Supreme Court used to deprive him of his “victory” in 2000? I predict it’d take 15 seconds for the Obama people to proclaim such a statement racist.
I think Hillary will initiate an all-out battle right there on the convention floor, assuming she hasn’t found a way to cripple Obama by then. I still suspect there’s something to Novak’s story that she’s sitting on something extra-juicy about the Obamessiah. But when will she deploy it?
Novak pointed out she doesn’t actually have to know of a scandal, just say that she knows of one but can’t let it get out cuz it would be too destructive. If she starts playing that angle, she might still be in this game.
