Shooting of Gay Student Sparks Outcry
AP via SFGate ^ | 3/28/8 | GREG RISLING, Associated Press Writer

Larry King was a gay eighth-grader who used to come to school in makeup, high heels and earrings. And when the other boys made fun of him, he would boldly tease them right back by flirting with them.

That may have been what got him killed.

On Feb. 12, another student, Brandon McInerney, 14, shot him twice in the head at the back of the computer lab at their junior high school, police say.

The slaying of the 15-year-old boy has alarmed gay rights activists and led to demands that middle schools do more to educate youngsters about discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

Police would not discuss McInerney's motive. But the day before the shooting, King told McInerney he liked him, eighth-grader Eduardo Segure told the Ventura County Star.

If King had flirted with the other boy, "that can be very threatening to someone's ego and their sense of identity," said Jaana Juvonen, a psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

McInerney was jailed on $770,000 bail on an adult murder charge that could put him behind bars for life. Prosecutors also filed a hate-crime enhancement, which could bring three more years if McInerney is found to have acted on the basis of the victim's race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation.

The shooting has galvanized Oxnard, a city of nearly 200,000 people about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Several vigils for King have been held, including a march that drew about 1,000 people to this strawberry-growing section of Ventura County.

Like the killings of some other gay students — such as Matthew Shepard in Wyoming, and Brandon Teena, the Nebraska transsexual whose story was the subject of the movie "Boys Don't Cry" — King's death has drawn national attention and outraged many gays.

Exactly. First them letting him go to school like that and second the school ALLOWING that kind of dress. The world has gone mad!

That away to stick to your guns there gay guy. You showed them that parading around in any gender-bending attire you wish. Yep. You showed ‘em.

Course you ended up dying to make your point.

This is like the person who drives hurriedly through a green traffic light without looking in either direction, because hey, they have the right of way. Then they get flattened by a big truck. But they were in the right!

Shooting Larry King was wrong.

My gripe about this report, however, is that we never hear anything about how Christians may be offended by cross-dressing and homosexuality in public school settings. (I don't know what Brandon McInerney's religious beliefs are.)

Deuteronomy 22:5 commands us not to cross-dress, for example.

Also, Romans 1:25-27 tells us that same-sex sexual relationships are a consequence of idolatry. In other words, such relationships are a consequence of disobeying the 1ST COMMANDMENT, a major aspect of the GREATEST COMMANDMENT, to love the jealous God with all your being.

Homosexuals need to keep in mind, however, that the good news of the gospel is not about how God despises same-sex sexual relationships. In fact, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 indicates that certain members of that church had been slaves to such relationships but had been cleansed in Jesus' name. So these former homosexual had evidently repented and accepted God's grace to straighten their lives out.

So now just as Bill Clinton’s sexual harassment victims are supposed to “lie back and take it” so are those who are sexually emasculated by a cruising homosexual.

Violence is not the answer. But then again 2 wrongs were committed and 2 wrongs don’t make a right. The school and protesters deny the first was “wrong”.

It was an unwelcome sexual advance.

that was obviously the wrong play.

Problem is, is that the liberal media is telling us that gay is OK, but the playground berates any boy less than masculine as a faggot. This is what happens when worlds collide. When parents don’t see any harm in having their son openly act gay, while other parents don’t see any harm in their sons play murder simulator games on their X-Box!

How about teaching kids about appropriate responses to teasing and flirting in the first place? Regardless of how dumb you think someone looks, there’s no excuse to tease them about it - let other people dress ridiculously if they want, cause they’re only going to make themselves look bad. On the other hand, unwanted flirting is sexual harassment, and it should have stopped when the killer asked the gay kid to stop, just like it would be expected for any two heterosexual individuals. In addition, had the killer reported the other boy for sexual harassment instead of shooting him, the whole situation could probably have been resolved nonviolently. And last of all, as much as I’m likely to catch some flaming from this, I think the world would be a lot better if more people had that gay kid’s self-confidence - how many girls starve themselves because they’re worried about what other people think of them? How many guys treat girls badly because they’re worried about being seen as ‘manly’ (which, unfortunately, in today’s culture can mean ‘acting like a pimp/player/jerk’)? There’s just so much wrong on every side of this picture...

Great, something for the queens to cry about - riiiiiight, one kid shoots another kid in a public school who happens to be “gay”, so therefore, a pro-homosexual agenda has to be pushed on ALL students even harder?

What kind of parents lets their SON go to school in makeup and high heels in the first place???

Seems to me the better solution would be to make homosexuality socially unacceptable, and cause gay, cross dressing children to dress and act straight, at least until they are old enough to have a private life where they can share their perversions with friends who want to share the gay lifestyle with them. All the politically correct attempts to convince straight people that homosexuality is normal won’t prevent the next young thug from killing or beating a gay kid. What liberals will accomplish with the radical, gay agenda is the next step in tearing down sexual morality and cultural standards. Someday, we will read how some young thug shot the neighbor kid for lawfully practicing bestiality on the street. The PC police will admonish us about the need to teach our children bestiality awareness.

This is what happens when fatherhood is banned. I bet neither kid had a real dad. Sad.

Is this the wonderful “socialization” that homeschoolers are missing? Or....Should I say, “sexualization”?

As horrific as this “school” ( sounds more like a prison) murder was, and as dumb as this school's policies are, STUPID parents likely had their kids attending there the very next day. Free babysitting is powerfully addictive!

I liked it better when NO ONE talked about their sexuality. To me, that should be a private matter.

I agree with your analogy. Maybe the shooter felt threatened by this idiot gay kid who was a cross-dresser. Harassment is harassment, regardless of who is harassed and who does the harassment.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the articles portrayal of the two boys. Victim: Singer, loved by all, crochets with his mother. Perp: Goofey, junior marine in the making, typical guy.

You think there was a little editorializing being done here. No one was interviewed about the perp, but there were two or three glowing, “he was the most wonderful, well liked” interviews about the victim.

I don’t agree with the idea that if someone bugs you at school you shoot them, but you have to wonder just how pervasive this harassment was and how long it had been going on. Was there unwelcoming touching or advances be made? It sounds like the victim was an in your face kind of guy and this may not have been the first time he had cornered this other kid. And who knows maybe the other kid did go to a teacher or someone and was told that his attitude was homophobic and he needed to become more tolerant of Larry’s behavior. I would not be surprised to find that to be the case in a school that allowed this kid to parade around in make-up and high heels.

What you miss in your analysis is the deep seated visceral disgust that many heterosexuals experience when confronted with that garbage. Even more so for a boy that age — he was at risk of being branded a faggot as well because of this flamer. His developing sexual psyche couldn’t take it, he flipped out, and capped the kid. It would have been nice if he could have stepped back, been objective, and thought through the situation, but that’s way too much to expect from a young skull full of mush afflicted by raging hormones.

This reminds me of that horrible event on the Jenny Jones show, “Secret Crushes” where a homo told a straight guy he had a crush on him and the next day the straight guy killed him.
