"White Man's Greed" Obama's very first service at Wright's church was...controversial
Slate ^ | March 28, 2008 | Mickey Kaus

On his radio show yesterday, Hugh Hewitt played excerpts of Barack Obama reading from his autobiography, Dreams of My Father. In one, Obama remembers a sermon by Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

[T]he pastor described going to a museum and being confronted by a painting title Hope.

"The painting depicts a harpist," Revernd Wright explained, "a woman who at first glance appears to be sitting atop a great mountaintop. Untill you take a closer look and see that the woman is bruised and bloodied, dressed in tattered rags, the harp reduced to a single frayed string. Your eye is then drawn down to the scene below, down to the valley below, where everywhere are the ravages of famine, the drumbeat of war, a world groaning under strife and deprivation.

It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks' greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere ... That's the world! On which hope sits."

And so it went, a meditation on a fallen world. While the boys next to me doodled on their church bulletin, Reverend Wright spoke of Sharpesville and Hiroshima, the callousness of policy makers in the White House and in the State House. ... [E.A.]

Sounds ... controversial! Keep in mind: a) Obama isn't disapproving of this sermon. In the book he weeps at the end of it; b) Demonstrating that at least some blaming of "white greed" for the world's sins--which Obama now criticizes-- isn't an exceptional topic for Rev. Wright in a few wacky sermons ("the five dumbest things") that Obama may or may not have missed.

White self hate has reached epidemic proportions. A guy who hates white people might rule a country full of them by free elections? This is insane.

One ony needs to look at Obama’s tax return and his church giving to see where the greed is.

...white folks' greed runs a world in need

Pastor Wright must savor those words as he settles in to his newly built 1.6 million, 10,000+ sq ft dream home in a gated community of a tony suburb in Chicago.

A race-hustling poverty-pimping minister railing against rich white folks is purchasing a 10,000 sq ft. home in a gated community in a Chicago suburb, with a $10,000,000 line of credit. How accurate was the Lord Jesus when he called all such religious racketeers “hypocrites.”

“Whitened sepulchers” fits as well, doesn't it? But I don't think he'd like being described as a “white” anything, would he?

You know, I'm pretty tired of anyone, not just Wright, who romanticizes the poor as victims all the time. Likewise the person who gets in my face and tells me I need to help the poor. Really?

I think the real issue is to ask why they are poor. In most cases--not all, but most--it's because the poor have made bad decisions. They choose not to study hard in school, with many of them dropping out before they finish high school.

Parents don't take an interest in their kids and make them do their homework. Parents would rather buy an X-box than Hooked on Phonics so they can just shove their kids in a corner and do their own thing.

If you're tired of being poor, try working. If you're having a hard time finding a job, try investing in yourself. Hock your X-Box and take a training course. If you still can't find a job, tell them you'll work for less. After a while, experience will increase your income.

Sorry, but I'm just tired of hearing the poor are victims. While there are people out there who want to keep the poor victims because their livelihood depends on it (e.g., Jesse, Al, Jerry, et al), most are victims of their own doing. Given that, perhaps they need to fix their problems themselves rather than asking me and you to do it all the time.

Just send back the $3 trillion dollars we pee’d away on the War On Poverty and call us anything you like.

Oddly, the “white folks’ greed” line and the Haiti reference do not appear in the seemingly official version of the sermon.

But Obama has them in his book within quotation marks.

Barry Obama went there for one thing-to get street-cred. Rev. Wright’s church was the best place for a young, intelligent, wealthy white boy who wanted to become a black politician to earn his bones and make his way up the political ladder. Barry should’ve ditched Rev. Wright the moment he knew he was wanting to run for President.

Yes, they exist. The manse is under construction.

I work within 2 miles of said domicile and live within 8 miles.

Funny thing is, Tinley Park is the beneficiary of 1970’s white flight from the Southside area “Rev.” Wright’s church is committed to.

Also, quite a ways out into suburbia.
