Thanks Kent. I appreciate it, and agree with the sentence you cut out.

During one debate McCain stated, “I was leading the way for Conservatism during the Reagan years.” Catching himself, he immediately stated, “I was a footsoldier in that battle.”

I guess it dawn on him as it did many others, if he was the leading the way, what was Reagan doing?

The guy sure has the Hillary Clinton ability to lie down pat, just like the good little leftie he is.

McCain has said numerous times, and I believe him, it makes total sense - that the reason he opposed the tax cuts before was there were no accompanying cuts in spending, which is crucial. It’s like all those (Huckabee et al) who want the Fair Tax - it’d be great but ONLY if first, internal revenue tax is repealed. Otherwise, you just have a double-whammy. Now McCain’s looking at being in a position to have a real say on spending cuts, thus making the tax cuts legitimate. To all his critics, he understands a great deal more about economics than the opposition. BHO and HRC may understand in principle, but they don’t care, putting their own dangerous agendas ahead of the people’s good. (He does have to get straightened out on this big global warming/environmental commitment as a priority, though.)

CC - you just said it all. The stakes are TOO HIGH. Amazing how blessed we are to live in a country where everyone is free to be spoiled, petulant, fight, complain, insult, etc. Our enemies who focus 24/7 on killing us love it, that which they could never understand. In a perfect (election) world, we’d always have an ideal candidate, thrilling in every way. (Ooh, ask BHO supporters). This is a dangerous time in history and the future of our freedom and continued existence is riding on us getting a grasp. Think it couldn’t get worse? It could, beyond imagination. Vote and vote seriously, it’s a tremendous privilege that our founding fathers fought and died for.

(and it is really, really funny that you're acting like Cato is out to get conservatives!)

Cato Institute is not conservative; it is libertarian. They are opposed to moral conservatism, to a significant degree.

Ahhh c'mon, tell us how you really feel.

Seriously, do you feel better now that you've vented your obvious frustrations? Sorry. Couldn't be helped. My psychology class just left to go to lunch.

I don't hate McCain but I do hate the fact that he has cloaked himself as a "conservative" while taking every opportunity to destroy & disrupt conservative causes and goals. He has shown by his voting history where he truly stands. I think he's sold his soul for a seat at the big table of power.

Having said all that, I'll still hold my nose and vote for him because while I think the results will be the same as a win for the RATS, I think the journey will take a little longer and offer a less jarring transition and thus allow me more time to get prepped to accept the inevitable.

I will respond to your other post when I have a little personal time...but this I will respond to right now because it is typical of your spin and/or inability to analyze political data that's right in front of your face. It's true the Cato Institute is libertarian and that as a social conservative I disagree with them on some issues. But Cato, while advancing libertarian ideas advance fiscal conservative ideas and oppose the nanny state, and it's for this reason that they dislike Huckabee.

I mean really...is it your contention that a bunch of Libertarians are going to have a problem with a guy who wants to kill the IRS and then promote small government? That would be like Kate Michelman opposing condom distribution. No, Huckabee is opposed by libertarians and many social conservatives like myself because he's a social progressive in the early 1900s sense of the word.

Cato named Huckabee one of the worst governors in the country over purely fiscal issues, not social ones. Spin all you want, but that's the truth.

You have no grounds to say so. Neither do they. Only superficial factoids taken out of context, which don’t tell the story accurately. That is the kind of behavior that gives some conservatives the bad name of “reactionary.”

OK, prove it. Go get the Cato report and tell me what they said about Huckabee's fiscal performance that isn't true or is taken out of context. Then tell me why libertarians would oppose a guy who has a workable plan to destroy the IRS. You could also tell me why if all of this is a bunch of lies he couldn't give Romney a straight answer on taxes in four tries.

Oh, and the "reactionary" charge...did your women's studies professor put you up to that? One of the hallmarks of social conservatism is opposing vast social experiments, and sending everyone in America a check every month falls under that category for sure.

I suggest they start their own website.

They can call it “wehateeveryonebutourguysoweregoingtopout.com”

He’s not perfect. I’m probably going to have to hold my nose on a variety of issues while I push his name on the Diebold Touchscreen.

The issue for me is who would be more detrimental to the country? Hillabama, or McCain? The answer for me is clear.

I have plenty of reason to hate John McCain. I don’t. I do hate what he has stood for most of his life. If you read about the guy, you realize he was a problem as a yute. He was a problem in his West Point and Navy training days.

He was a massive problem once he got out of the Navy.

So John, I don’t hate you. I just hate what you have been doing with most of your life.

Leave the management of our nation to people who are better grounded. Please.
