Terri Schiavo's Family Calls for Observance of Terri's Day to Honor Disabled Woman

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Terri Schiavo's family and a leading pro-life group are calling on people to honor the disabled woman whose husband took her life in a painful euthanasia death. Together with Priests for Life, the Schindler family has established the observance of “Terri’s Day” each March 31.

That's the day Terri succumbed to a 13-day starvation and dehydration death at the hand of Michael Schiavo, her former husband who won a court order to take her life.

“This third anniversary should be an occasion for all of us to both remember the injustice done to Terri, and reach out to others with prayer and concrete action when they need the kind of help Terri needed," Terri's brother Bobby Schindler told LifeNews.com on Monday.

Suzanne Vitadamo, Terri’s sister, added that Terri's Day is also a way for her family to encourage others to take better care of the elderly and disabled.

“Our family continues to be consoled and uplifted by the many ways in which people honor my sister, learn from her story, and grow in compassion for all the disabled," she said.

During the days leading up to Terri's death, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life brought comfort and peace to the Schindler family.

Father Pavone was present for the final prayer Terri participated in before her death. He also saw the manipulative ways Michael tried to prevent the Schindler family from caring for her or being present with her during the starvation and dehydration.

“Terri’s death was not the end of her fight," he told LifeNews.com. "It was the beginning of a new chapter in the pro-life movement."

"I call upon all those who were moved by Terri’s death to continue their courageous activism in the cause of life, and never to be silent," he said.

Together, Priests for Life and the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation encourage churches, families, organizations and individuals to observe Terri’s Day with prayers, memorial services, educational activities and community outreach.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- College-aged women have more abortions than any other age range of women in the United States and a leading pro-life group that reaches out to college students says a lack of resources for pregnant and parenting students on most university campuses is part of the problem.

In a new study released Wednesday, Feminists for Life of America released what it considered the first nationwide survey of pregnancy help for college students.

The survey highlights the perceptions that students have about resource availability on their campuses.......

Touch of reality in a thread by wagglebee.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A woman whose abortion experience adversely impacted her family has started a new web site to minister to family members who need hope and healing following an abortion. While post-abortions groups focus mostly on the women having abortions, and sometimes the fathers, family members are often forgotten.

Fredenburg became pregnant at 18 and an abortion she now regrets.

"I thought abortion would erase the pregnancy," she told LifeNews.com. "I thought I could move on with my life. I was wrong.".....

In search of taboos to breach for breach's sake, the liberal artistic community is finally dredging the bottom of the barrel: abortion.

Interesting that it took them longer to mock abortion than crucifixes.

You likely missed the comedy video sketch Damon Wayans of WayoutTV.com posted last week called "AbortionMan." So I'll describe it for you, or you can view it at YouTube..

Ben Stein’s movie EXPELLED (No Intelligence Necessary) covers abortion, euthanasia, Planned Parenthood, etc.

The more pro-life conservatives that see this movie, the more chance that movies like this will be made, and the movie is very entertaining, as well as informative.

Somehow NRO is more like NKR (Not Quite Right) these days, lacking the punch and the spark it had years ago when Buckley was at the helm and T'wit was editor. Still it is mostly ok.

Meanwhile, on the Republican side, you have social conservatives who want government to stop distributing condoms in schools and preventing their children from praying; you have home schoolers who want to teach their kids on their own without government interference; you have gun owners who want to keep their guns; you have entrepreneurs who want fewer regulations, and you have taxpayers who want their taxes low. Grover Norquist called this the "Leave Me Alone Coalition." Only when you run into a gun owner who wants to distribute condoms in schools do you run into a problem... or something like Terry Schiavo, which pit the pro-life and small-government wings against each other.

It happens on the GOP side, but that's a result of circumstances. On the Democratic side, it's "baked in the cake" in the way their party is set up....

We have noted before the blog on Medical Futility by the fine law professor, Thaddeus Mason Pope. Here is more on the subject, with thanks to LesforLife for the tip...

.....................

With the end of classes, I am catching up on some reading. I just read this article from the February 8, 2007 New England Journal of Medicine. Curlin et al. show that "14% of patients -- more than 40 million Americans may be cared for by physicians who do not believe they are obligated to disclose information about medically available treatments they consider objectionable."

I find this troubling. While futility policies (and laws) are aimed at enabling providers to avoid providing treatment they deem ethically or professionally inappropriate, those policies and laws always inform the patient/surrogate and allow the opportunity to transfer. The objective is to allow specific providers to decline to provide some treatments, not to altogether prohibit the patient from getting the treatment. The objective is to allow providers to extricate themselves from the administration of interventions.

But Curlin et al.'s study suggests that many physicians' refusals look more like evangelism or proselytism. They never even mention some alternatives (even life-preserving or life-sustaining alternatives). Therefore, these physicians' patients/surrogates do not even know to look for a transfer or to seek review.

And one more from Professor Pope with thanks again to LesforLife. He addresses the sore topic of PVS, the tool favored by the death lovers to hoodwink the simple public as excuse for their wicked craft.

........................

Several people have recently urged me to consider studies demonstrating the error rates in diagnosing PVS. While I have yet to do so, I did notice this appellate opinion published yesterday in Wisconsin, and briefly reported by the Chicago Tribune.

In 2000, Tywanda Luckett suffered permanent severe brain damage allegedly due to medical malpractice. In a damages action brought in 2003, one of the defendants asked the plaintiffs to admit that Tywanda was in a PVS and that the PVS was permanent. Plaintiffs made those admissions. Presumably both treating physicians and/or retained experts had reached this conclusion. Notably, plaintiff's counsel made the admissions knowing that they would substantially reduce the value of the case both for the plaintiffs and for himself.

In preparing for trial, plaintiffs' counsel found doctor's notes stating that, in 2001, Tywanda could "follow simply commands," "comprehend some of what is said to her," and is "aware" and "responsive." Since such evidence strongly suggests that Tywanda was not in PVS, counsel sought to withdraw the admission. The trial court allowed this and the appellate court affirmed, even though Tywanda is now deceased and defendants cannot examine her. Consequently, the value of the case has now changed dramatically with the addition of five years of pain and suffering damages.

Killer Tiller's death camps continue to outrage. Thread by wagglebee.

The thread contains examples which could have come from Auschwitz.

WICHITA, KS, April 24, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Women have come forward and shared their stories of coerced, botched, and illegal abortions which they say took place at the nation's largest late-term abortion mill, operated by George R. Tiller in Wichita, Kansas.

"These are heart-breaking stories for which we hold Governor Kathleen Sebelius personally responsible," said Operation Rescue Senior Policy Advisor Cheryl Sullenger. "The governor has appointed people to all the state's enforcement institutions that continue to turn a blind eye to lawbreaking and unethical behavior on the part of the abortion cartel. She is at the heart of the abortion corruption scandal in Kansas that has already cost the jobs of an attorney general and two top members of the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts. Unfortunately, that is just the tip of the iceberg."........

........................

New Haven, CT (LifeNews.com) -- Yale officials have conducted an investigation into the art studio of senior Aliza Shvarts, who created a national controversy last week when she claimed to have intentionally impregnated herself repeatedly and filmed herself having self-induced abortions.

Shvarts supposedly created an art project consisting of the videos and plastic sheets covered in her blood from the abortions.

Yale officials said Shvarts admitted the project was a ruse, but she later denied the claim.

However, her project wasn't shown Tuesday with those of other graduating art students because she wouldn't sign a statement Yale officials produced admitting she was never pregnant and never had the alleged abortions...............

Truth is the enemy of leftist thought. They hate and fear it as lies are the province of their god. Thread by wagglebee.

...........................

LifeNews.com Note: Roeten is a very conservative Catholic who likes the facts over readily displayed emotions. He is an editorial columnist who has frequently been published in numerous Internet and newspaper forums.

The act of aborting an individual is usually hidden in some Planned Parenthood office. A few doctors have physically seen the procedure done. A few others have seen the killings after the whole baby has left the uterus. Some truly grisly sights have been discovered in waste dumpsters. Not many of us really know exactly what goes on behind those closed doors. We therefore need to prepare.

Father Frank Pavone (Priests for Life) has posted two videos to YouTube and that explains exactly what happens during an abortion. It’s very convenient that the mother never sees the actual abortion. The abortionist many times has an ultrasound picture of the procedure and watches it take place, but never allows the mother to see it. Most times, the abortionist has to ‘feel’ his way around the uterus without sight as to where the baby is.

Most abortions fall into either of two categories: a Suction Curetage usually done during the 1st semester, and a D&E (Dilation and Extraction), during the 2nd semester. With the Suction Curetage, a cannula (hollow tube) is used by the abortionist who runs a vacuum pump attached to it. The baby is continually prodded until it breaks into small enough pieces to be sucked through the cannula.....

Our choices are bleak this season, but we still must focus on that Obama Nation as a deep threat to America. The message may well horripulate the older generations, and I do hope younger folk will learn the history of this greatest threat to humanity ever, the march of Marxism, through the blood of uncounted millions already. Thanks, narses, for the ping to this thread by Dajjal.
