AdWatch: Ose's ad hits McClintock as a carbetbagger
Sacramento Bee ^ | 4/2/8 | Peter Hecht,

Posted on 04/02/2008 8:08:38 AM PDT by SmithL

Doug Ose's 4th Congressional District campaign is running a new television ad central to one of Ose's themes – that rival Tom McClintock is a more profound political carpetbagger than he is.

The ad shows a narrator walking an oversized California map from McClintock's Thousand Oaks-area state Senate district to the 4th District near Sacramento. Ose appears at the end of the ad.

The following is the text of the ad and analysis by Peter Hecht of the Bee's Capitol Bureau.

• NARRATOR: For 22 years, Tom McClintock has been representing Los Angeles in the Legislature. But now term limits are forcing him out. So he's shopping for a new job. At first he was going to run for Congress here, in L.A. And then he thought about running in the Bay Area. Finally he rolled into our congressional district in Northern California, over 400 miles from home. That's a mighty big stretch to run for office.

• OSE: I'm Doug Ose, I was born and raised in Northern California and I approved this ad.

• ANALYSIS: The reality is that both McClintock and Ose are outsiders to the 4th District.

I agree. That is why I am happy McClintock is in. Not so happy with Ose.

The Dems seem to covet the Tahoe region and are in some position to exploit suburban growth outside Sacramento.

They couldn't care less about the rural populations and ranchers.

Reno’s in Nevada. I know gerrymandering is bad, but not THAT bad. ;-)

Good afternoon.

I need to get out more. Who is Doug Ose and why is he running against my candidate of choice?

I just received a notice that McClintock and Paul Hegyi will be doing a precinct walk in El Dorado Hills this Saturday. If you want more info Freepmail me.

I remember interviews Doug Ose did with Tom Sullivan before Ose’s last term ended. He clearly stated that he wasn’t running for Congress again because he had made a promise to the people of his district that he would term limit himself. At the time it seemed like an honorable thing to do, being as Dan Lungren won his seat that year. Is Mr. Ose going back on his promise, now?

The only problem is its weird shape which includes Tahoe and Reno which like most cities seems to lean liberal.

I can assure you that no California Congressional District contains any portions of the State of Nevada (such as Reno).

Of course Tom's being a carpetbagger, but CA districts get capetbagged all the time! Vic Fazio held the district that Ose used to represent and Fazio was from some eastern seaboard state like MA, or something! Now they've named the Yolo Causeway west of Sacramento as the Fazio Wildlife Preserve, or some such nonsense!!!

I'd venture to say there's been more carpetbagging in CA, than in the deep south after the Civil War!!!

Perhaps, but people in this district aren’t accustomed to such things.
