WASHINGTON (AFP) - Republican John McCain Thursday portrayed his possible Democratic presidential election rival Barack Obama as a national security neophyte who was dishonestly misrepresenting him on Iraq.
Intensifying his assault, McCain questioned Obama's plan to leave a "strike force" of US troops in the Middle East after an eventual withdrawal from Iraq, and accused him of being "disingenuous" about his own Iraq stance.

"I think somebody ought to ask what in the world he's talking about, especially since he has no experience or background at all in national security affairs," McCain said in an MSNBC interview.
McCain also hit out at Obama for claiming he wants to wage a 100 year war in Iraq, saying he was deliberately taking his remarks about a South Korea or Japan-style multi-generational peacekeeping presence out of context.
"Senator Obama is being disingenuous, because he knows better."
In a Fox News interview, McCain said Obama was being "dishonest."
"No one could have interpreted that exchange as me saying that we are going to be in a war for 100 years. And so for Senator Obama to interpret (it) that way is obviously willful distortion."
McCain also took a disdainful swipe at Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman who branded the presumptive Republican nominee as an "opportunist" as he relates his personal history of military heroism.
"I think it was Bob Dole (1996 Republican nominee and World War II veteran) who said you don't want to get into a wrestling match with a pig.
"You both get dirty, and the pig likes it."

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs meanwhile argued that his candidate's national security judgement was superior to that of either McCain or Clinton...

I love the way Mc Cain is hitting back at these guys. No nice guy weak replies. Just hammer them.
And the truly scary thing is this guy goes to bed at night believing this wholeheartedly and without reservations. Lord help us if this idiot gets elected, he truly is scarier than Hillary IMHO.
Agreed...good hard counter punches doing a nice job.
I agree. The one thing we can count on with McCain is that he's tough and capable of spitting nails when need be.
Oh my!!! Hahahahaha!!! McCain can take on neville chamberlain...no problem!!!
Let’s just get the hag out of the way once and for all!
“McCain hammers “dishonest” Obama on national security (& calls Dean a pig)”
Reason enough to vote for McCain!!
Obama is shuckin and jivin again and people are falling for it. Bet he couldn’t even tell you the main line of defense for each branch of the military...........let alone the country. He didn’t even know what his Pastor, if that’s what he calls himself, was doing for the last 20 years, nor did his wife evidently.

That is a refreshing change: luckily, McCain drops any pretence of collegiality when his honor is impugned. Since the Dems ARE pigs who will say anything, I suspect McCain will clean their clocks.
Obama is immensely scary. He's a Marxist who loves radical techniques to force change to the far Left. He hates whitey.
What I want to know is why this dude is in such a hurry to park his ass in the presidency. Straight out of college, he deliberately seeks out black radicals in Chicago, spends a few terms in the state legislature, runs for the senate, barely spends half a term there, then goes after the presidency like a shark after bloody chum. What's this guy really after? And who's really backing him?
No more NEW TONE crap! this is what I like about old and crotchety, hehe...
So FReepers are riding the McPain train to victory because we blew the chance to challenge the power-brokers. I was alway skeptical of the FRed fans... thinking that he was unelectable and that it would set up some Manchurian supplant.
So here we are... rallying behind a psuedo-publican as our party’s best.
I get pragmatism, but the other side has two dyed-in-the-wool liberals as their potential nominees and we offer up the most “centrist”, complimentary candidate we can... with fake conservative principles.
Where are the Reagans amd Goldwaters?
I am mourning the loss of my party.
At least McCain is no candy ass who shies away from the political version of street fighting.
No he just tells you that he can do it better because you know he is the OBAMA.... and the crowd goes wild asking for more Kool-Aid...
Obama’s foreign policy is to sit down over a Hookah with a Kookah like Amadmanjihadi.... Personally I think Obamie may have inhaled too much....
Good for McCain. Good solid hits to these lowlifes.
If he doesn’t apologize for it tomorrow, I continue to smile.
Love it!
“And who’s really backing him?”
Great question but unfortunately the answer will never be known..
