Deadly Home Invasion Columbus police say an East Side resident shot and killed a 19-year-old man who had broken into his apartment.

By Christy Chatman - Thursday, April 3, 2008

Detectives say it appears the East Side resident who shot and killed a 19-year-old man early Thursday morning was acting in self-defense.

A Franklin County Grand Jury will review the evidence.

Police say Jermaine A. McCrary broke into the apartment at 2936 E. Fifth Ave. just before 2 a.m. and assaulted a man and woman.

McCrary was armed and during the struggle he was shot by one of the residents, investigators say. Police have not identified them or have said which one pulled the trigger.

McCrary had a lengthy criminal record, 610 WTVN's Christy Chatman reports.

"McCrary had a lengthy criminal record ..."

Was probably a superdelegate, too.

Awesome! When I hear of citizens protect themselves, I get a warm feeling inside.

“McCrary had a lengthy criminal record ...”

Let’s put a period at the end of that sentence, shall we?

McCrary had a lengthy criminal record.

There...somehow seems much more peaceful, resolved.

You bet. Happy endings are much appreciated, but the Dispatch (local rag) said they residents abandoned the place and ran near two blocks to call for help. I imagine it wasn't a good time for either of them.

Police don't figure on any charges, so good news there.

I heard another radio report today that this was the burglar’s second attempt to break into that same apartment. Thus proving true the old adage, “When at first you fail, try, try again and get shot in the head.”

About three weeks ago an 81 year old defended himself, his wife and home when invaded by a thug.

We watched a local news report the next night when a neighbor/friend described the events as told to him by the homeowner: "My friend told the {thug} to leave. The {thug} told my friend to give him the gun. He did. Three times, I believe"

We fell off our seats with that line!

Oh, oh. Another Democrat voter bites the dust.

At least this way they don't have to bus him to the polls. All they have to do is cast his vote - like they do the rest of their dead voters.

Wipeing eyes, Gawd I love a happy ending.
Wife and I are ccw’s. Mag safe 9mm and .357. 2 to chest and one to head with rounds left over in case perp gets up.
Practice one a month. Her groups are getting tighter. Gawd I’m proud of her. She carries most anywhere legal without reminders to carry. Husbands, take a hint....she loves her new carry purse. Shows I care about her...cheap investment in safety. Bought her a full health check up and .357 for her birthday. God sent me an ANGEL 27 years ago.

I have a Glock 9mm the lightest one they made in the 80s. I had cw carry when I was with the state. I haven't kept up my qualifying. We go about twice a year. A friend of ours is a range master.

We have a Mossberg shotgun, I've shot a few times, just to get the hang of it. I prefer a handgun.

The problem is the guy probably has to pay out 30-40,000 in court costs to get the grand jury ‘self-defense’ verdict. The cops will confiscate his gun as evidence in the meantime, so he will have to buy another one if he wants protection. The losers’ relatives could still try to sue him.

I gave my "concealed carry licensed" wife a nice "carry purse" for her birthday last year. She loves it.
