I like Stolli’s better than Absolute. How about the cheap $10 dollar a gallon Popav if you're feeling brave?

I wonder how funny the residents of Sweden would feel if Wild Turkey had a marketing campaign with a giant swastika over Europe?

You can add comments to the blog. I just left the following:

I understand a lot of these comments are harsh, but let me put it in perspective. Imagine if your ad company created an ad for the German market that showed a map of Europe during WWII that had all the land that Hitler overtook- including Sweden, with the caption- In An Absolut World. How do you think the folks in Sweden would take that?

This particular ad, which ran in Mexico, was based upon historical perspectives and was created with a Mexican sensibility.

Well, then maybe they could create one that appeals to my sensibilities. It would have a free and independent Tibet, Israel would stretch from the Euphrates to the Nile, and Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Iran would just disappear.

BTW Hacksaw, their parent company also owns Wild Turkey.

We are sorry if we offended anyone. This was not our intention.
We will try to explain. Though you may not agree, I hope you understand......

you're sorry you got caught... & some us stupid Americans fully understand where you're coming from...
I am boycotting any product you make.
I am encouraging my friends & family to do the same...

To the idiot in advertising that thought this was a good idea......
I hope they kick your sorry ass to the curb...

“The dumb asses probably didn’t think we would notice. Reckon they have any grasp of WORLD GEOGRAPHY?”

With the 3 presidential candidates we have, they probably didn’t think we’d care. Next we’ll find out which politicos are wound up with this ad agency in NY.

from a trade paper a few months ago.

ABSOLUT launches new advertising
ABSOLUT vodka is introducing a new multimedia campaign that reasserts the leadership of ABSOLUT Vodka as “The ABSOLUT Vodka” and celebrates other classics that are “absolutes” in our culture. “The Absolute” campaign marks the first time that ABSOLUT will advertise its base brand with two 30-second television spots debuting on Comedy Central, Fox Sports Net, TBS, Spike and E!. The campaign also features online and print, with online media and print rolling out in February magazine issues and websites. The broadcast spots illustrate a collage of “absolute” moments and icons that define modern culture. Images include “The Absolute Morale Booster” (Marilyn Monroe singing for U.S. troops) and “The Absolute Road Trip” (first manned trip to the moon). The print advertisement features an ABSOLUT bottle levitating over a color-block table with copy that reads “The ABSOLUT Vodka” the image connotes an exclamation point. The print ad illustrates the originality of ABSOLUT Vodka and succinctly delivers the single message that ABSOLUT is “The Absolute Vodka.” The campaign was created by AOR TBWA/Chiat Day. The buying agency is OMD NY.

Obviously, this ad was run in Mexico, and not the US -- that ad might have been very different.

Might I suggest:

This pathetic response is completely inadequate, and just as insulting as the ad itself.

They need to pull this ad, fire whoever is responsible, and issue a public apology on their billboards and in the periodicals in which this disgusting image appeared.

If you want to express your Absolut outrage, send you messages to:

Ketil.Eriksen@absolut.se - Ketil Eriksen, President V&S ABSOLUT Spirits
Anna.malmhake@absolut.se - Anna Malmhake, Global Brand Director, V&S ABSOLUT Spirits
tim.murphy@absolut.com - Tim Murphy, VP Marketing, Absolut Spirits Company, Inc.
jeffrey.moran@absolut.com - Jeffrey Moran, Director of Public Relations and Events, Absolut Spirits Company, Inc.
karl-johan.bogefors@absolut.se - Karl-Johan Bogefors, Global PR Manager, V&S ABSOLUT Spirits

Nice response, mnehrling.

I’m waiting for them to do one for the Serbs (I won’t hold my breath)....”In an Absolute world, you wouldn’t have been invaded, murdered and taken over by Albanian muslims with the blessings of the US Government!”

Best vodka I've ever had. Not cheap, but made right here in the U.S.A. Got Absolut beaten every which way but loose!

Replace with:

Tito’s Handmade Vodka from Texas

(Unfortunately it’s Austin....but it’s still Texas.)

So maybe we should send them our visions, with Afghanistan Sea, and the Nations of Exxon and BP replacing Iraq and Iran, and a Greater Israel consisting of Israel, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Sinai and see if they’ll used that for an ad?
