PHOENIX (AP) -- The U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix has announced the sentencing of a Bosnian national for robbing an armored car outside a casino near Scottsdale.

Adnan Alisic, 28, of Phoenix was sentenced Monday to 17 years in prison.

Alisic was convicted by a federal jury of Conspiracy to Commit Interference with Commerce by Threats, Violence and Robbery; Interference with Commerce by Threats, Violence and Robbery and Use of a Firearm in a Crime of Violence.

Prosecutors said that on July 21, 2006, Alisic and three other men robbed an armored car which was off-loading money at Casino Arizona. The men stole over $700,000 and sped away in their vehicle, prosecutors said.

According to federal court documents, the men were planning a daring getaway.

It involved them entering a sewer system through a manhole cover.

While in the sewer, the men planned to ride an ATV in the sewer to an exit manhole.

However, the U.S. Attorney's Office said the men were unable to get the manhole cover open and that allowed police to catch up with them. A high-speed chase ensued.

When the getaway van came to a stop, Alisic fled on foot and escaped.

One of his alleged accomplices, Ismar Kabaklic, 26, stopped to try to get the bags of money and was arrested by police, authorities said.

Further investigation revealed that at least two other men were involved in the planning of the robbery and the escape. Kabaklic confessed to his involvement and provided the names of the remaining conspirators. Within the same day, Alisic was arrested and confessed to his involvement.

Kabaklic pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 6 1/2 years on March 24, 2008, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

Other conspirators, also Bosnian nationals, included Bakir Mujkic who helped plan the robbery and was sentenced to two years in prison on March 10, 2008; and Daniel Mujkic, who pleaded guilty to the robbery and was scheduled to be sentenced on April 28, 2008.

Does this mean deportation after his prison term is up?

I wonder that too. When they call a person a “Bosnian national” does that mean they haven’t yet achieved U.S. citizenship? Even so, the Bosnian Muslims are highly favored by the U.S. State Department, so rules and things are bent to favor them - even the criminals.
