Voter Doubts About Her Honesty Costing Clinton
CQ Quarterly via Yahoo News ^ | 04/05/08 | CQ Quarterly Staff

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is being hobbled in her race to overtake Illinois Sen. Barack Obama by persistent questions among voters about her honesty, according to polls.

A new poll in North Carolina - which after the April 22 Pennsylvania primary, is the next big prize on the campaign trail - says a key element in Obama's success is that the state's voters value trust over experience. The survey for the Charlotte Observer/WCNC-TV reported that only 25 percent of voters gave high marks to Clinton for trustworthiness compared to 48 percent for Obama and 54 percent for Arizona Sen. John McCain. Nearly 9 in 10 voters said trust would be a major factor in deciding how they would vote.

Surveys in North Carolina have consistently shown Obama with a big lead over Clinton, and that was underscored again today in a new Rasmussen Reports poll. The poll, conducted April 3, says Obama's lead over Clinton has now soared to 56 percent to 33 percent.

Rasmussen noted that one bit of bad news for Obama is that 56 percent of Clinton supporters said they would not be likely to vote for Obama in a race against McCain. The Charlotte Observer poll put that number lower, saying 20 percent of Clinton supporters would vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination while 13 percent of Obama backers would do the same if Clinton is the nominee.

The Charlotte Observer poll was conducted as Clinton got caught up in news reports contradicting her account of once coming under sniper fire in Bosnia. The same doubts about Clinton's honesty have surfaced in polls by Gallup and Pew Research

On the honesty issue, Rasmussen says 77 percent have followed news stories about Clinton's misstatements about her Bosnia trip. Twenty-three percent say they are a "very important" issue while 25 percent say the issue is "somewhat important." Sixty-three percent say that most politicians lie or embellish the truth when discussing their own accomplishments.

The Charlotte Observer poll also found:

- Two-thirds of voters give Obama high marks for his ability to connect with voters compared to a third who give McCain and Clinton high marks.

- Three-quarters give high marks to Obama for intelligence compared to the more than the two-thirds who gave his rivals high marks.

Wow, is it possible that a Clinton might finally face a serious "honesty issue" at the polls?

Of course Obambi is also a lying fraud, but Shrillary's fantasies and fabrications have been coming a bit too fast and furious for even the most dedicated media suck-ups to swallow so easily.

If Hillary thinks she faces a “credibility gap” now she’d better pray that this does not get picked up more widely:

She would face the issue if Media were not so gutless and biased.

Everytime she says she was SLEEP DEPRIVED and MISSPOKE, someone has to say that NOBODY EVER falsely remembers that they were being shot at and had to duck down and run to save their lives.

Why would the Pilot even land if the area was not cleared? Why would her daughter be with her?

Many of us have been sleep deprived, especially in Silicon Valley where 14-15 hour work days are normal. Not once did I falsely recall being attacked by Serbian Snipers or say M-13 Gangsters.

She told that story MULTIPLE TIMES. Was she sleep deprived EVERY SINGLE TIME?

I think deep in their hearts people know Klintons are PURE EVIL LYIING SCUM.

However, all media has to do is DARE ask couple of follow up questions. Then the witch would have REAL troubles.

good points - I have been seriously sleep-deprived many many times, and not once was I disposed to concoct fantasies about running around under sniper fire or even spearheading the peace process in Northern Ireland.

The media still gives her far too much leeway and credit for complete howlers..... but it may all be finally catching up with her as just one lie too many gets scrutiny at the same time.....

Hillary Clinton managed to declare under oath that she could either not recall, not remember or simply forgot the entire 1990s. In fact, Hillary Clinton holds the record of forgetting 250 times while under oath.

I agree - especially about the scum part.

What I find to be more than passingly strange is if the ‘event’ were true, it would have been a very full news day for it not to have been reported worldwide. Having the First Lady shot at, only with her daughter, is a really big deal, simply because it happened and even more importantly why she was allowed to travel to that area in the first place.

With that said, how could she even think that she could get away with such a lie? To me, it’s not just a lie, it seems more insane or at the very least way out of touch with reality.

Hillary doesn’t just lie, she lies under oath. The just-released report of Independent Counsel Robert Ray on the dismissal of the White House Travel Office staff in 1993 says, “The overwhelming evidence establishes that she played a role in the decision to fire the employees and provided input into that decision. Thus, her statement to the contrary under oath was factually false.”

Ray’s report cites eight conversations she had with senior White House employees expressing her desire to replace the Travel Office staff. is black.

Great Point! Not one person with access to media would have missed the Story. America’s first lady and her daughter run on the tarmac under sniper fire.

She would have gotten some kind of medal for that.

Its so illogical the whole lie.....but Klintons intimidate people and also rely on their buddies to say WHATEVER they want to grab power....knowing full well there won’t be any hell to pay.

Right now only reason this got this much coverage is because of Obamania. Media can’t resist his temptation so they took few ‘shots’ at Hildabeast to back her off......

If she was the presumptive nominee, and it was the Republicans who reminded people that she is lying.....they would be attacked as Right Wing Conspirators.....and other than couple article here and there no one would hear about it.

If they only knew what Obama really is. He's at least two steps closer to Satans alter than Hillary.

For America as a nation, the choice is, screwed, badly screwed, and seriously screwed.

Think of the fun parody attack ads that can be made..... “It’s 3 am and a sleep-deprived Shrillay answers the phone.....”

Suddenly she starts denouncing enemies (and friends) at random, calling out for the “nuclear briefcase”...... “off with their heads” “I’ll get you my pretty, and your little do too” etc. etc.

Saturday Night Live could have fun with this, since they are in the tank for Obambi......

It will be so easy to make Shrillary look more ridiculous now that she says she makes up ridiculous stories and believes them when she is sleep deprived.

FORMER BOSS: HILLARY FIRED FOR LIES, UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR FROM CONGRESSIONAL JOB

Dan Calabrese’s new column on Hillary Clinton’s past may bring the curtain down on her political future. Calabrese interviewed Jerry Zeifman, the man who served as chief counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate hearings, has tried to tell the story of his former staffer’s behavior during those proceedings for years. Zeifman claims he fired Hillary for unethical behavior and that she conspired to deny Richard Nixon counsel during the hearings:

As Hillary Clinton came under increasing scrutiny for her story about facing sniper fire in Bosnia, one question that arose was whether she has engaged in a pattern of lying.

The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther – and goes much deeper – than anyone realizes.

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. Hillary got a job working on the investigation at the behest of her former law professor, Burke Marshall, who was also Sen. Ted Kennedy’s chief counsel in the Chappaquiddick affair. When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s 17-year career.

Why?

“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

This isn’t exactly news. When her lachrymose performance arguably won her New Hampshire, Zeifman tried to tell people about Hillary’s duplicity. Patterico noticed the effort, but few others picked it up. Zeifman wrote at his website:

After hiring Hillary, Doar assigned her to confer with me regarding rules of procedure for the impeachment inquiry. At my first meeting with her I told her that Judiciary Committee Chairman Peter Rodino, House Speaker Carl Albert, Majority Leader “Tip” O’Neill, Parliamentarian Lou Deschler and I had previously all agreed that we should rely only on the then existing House Rules, and not advocate any changes. I also quoted Tip O’Neill’s statement that: “To try to change the rules now would be politically divisive. It would be like trying to change the traditional rules of baseball before a World Series.”

Hillary assured me that she had not drafted, and would not advocate, any such rules changes. However, as documented in my personal diary, I soon learned that she had lied. She had already drafted changes, and continued to advocate them. In one written legal memorandum, she advocated denying President Nixon
representation by counsel. In so doing she simply ignored the fact that in the committee’s then most recent prior impeachment proceeding, the committee had afforded the right to counsel to Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas.

I had also informed Hillary that the Douglas impeachment files were available for public inspection in the committee offices. She later removed the Douglas files without my permission and carried them to the offices of the impeachment inquiry staff — where they were no longer accessible to the public.

Hillary had also made other ethical flawed procedural recommendations, arguing that the Judiciary Committee should: not hold any hearings with – or take depositions of — any live witnesses; not conduct any original investigation of Watergate, bribery, tax evasion, or any other possible impeachable offense of President Nixon; and should rely solely on documentary evidence compiled by other committees and by the Justice Departments special Watergate prosecutor .

The right to counsel is considered one of the inviolable tenets of our justice system. It doesn’t speak well of ambitious attorneys working on a highly-charged political investigation that she wanted to deny someone the right to an attorney. Small wonder Zeifman questioned her ethics.

If all she did was to propose that as a tactic, that would not make it terribly concerning — but she did much more than just spitball ideas. When informed that public evidence showed a precedent for the right to counsel, she absconded with the files to eliminate the evidence. Does that remind anyone of later incidents in the Clinton narrative, such as the billing records for the Rose Law offices and the 900+ raw FBI files on political opponents of the Clintons?

Hillary’s advocates could accuse Zeifman of conjuring up these stories in order to draw attention to himself in the middle of a presidential campaign. However, Calabrese reports that Zeifman kept diaries during this period, urged on by friends mindful of the historical nature of the Watergate investigation. No one would have known at the time that this 27-year-old barracuda would have any sort of national significance — which makes Zeifman’s testimony all the more compelling.

We know that the Tuzla Dash covered for something much more significant in Hillary’s character. Zeifman shows that all of this forms a pattern of lies, obfuscations, deceit, and treachery. Don’t miss a word on either site.

She spent time with fundraiser Denise Rich at a New York ball in late 2000, just weeks before the president provoked wide criticism by pardoning Rich’s ex-husband, Marc, a commodities trader who had fled the country to avoid tax-evasion charges. She held four private meetings with her chief of staff, Maggie Williams, on the day in 1996 that an aide presented old law firm billing records subpoenaed two years earlier in the Whitewater investigation.

Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived in the White House with a schedule befitting a president, packed with policy sessions, meetings with senators and trips to promote an ambitious political agenda. But after the collapse of her health-care plan in 1994, she largely retreated to a more traditional first lady’s calendar of school visits, hospital tours, photo ops and speeches on a narrower set of issues.

Just like Obama never recalled or “was never there” when his lovely Reverend Wright went off on his racist and anti-American episodes. Mighty convenient, that.

I think Obama is somewhat shielded from all of this:

1) because he didn’t directly say those things
2) because he’s wearing the next best thing to bullet-proof armor: black skin.

That’s not to say Hillary is getting this because she’s white, at all. She’s getting this because she’s been lying and lying constantly. And these aren’t just exaggerations or involving things you might easily forget or micharacterize. As others on this thread have noted, you don’t forget sniper fire—especially when you’re hanging out with Cheryl Crowe.

This is unfair. Why, one of my most vivid memories is the day Hillary tried to join the Marines. I was on the other side of the office joining the Navy and saw the whole thing. The recruiter (a GYSGT) made fun of her hair and glasses, so Hillary challenged him to arm-wrestling. Not only did Hillary pin him in less than 30 seconds, but when she was done, she lifted the guy over her head with ONE ARM and told him, “Why would I want to join a group full of wimps like the Marines?” She then tossed him aside and left the office. It was stunning! If only the Marines had had more sense history might have been much different. What a diference she would have made in Vietnam fighting for our side!

She can’t remember facts when questioned about them

She says she landed under sniper fire when she didn’t

She talks about being awakened at 3am yet tells others she was sleep deprived

She doesn’t check out a story about a deceased woman and her baby. She just takes off with it and then is confronted by the hospital who tells her to cease and desist that story.

She makes claims to all kinds of things until someone proves to the world they were all made up.

How in the heck does she think she can be President when she can’t remember half the things people ask her and she gets sleep deprived over a couple campaign flights. She didn’t even know what was going on in her own house when she was First lady????

This woman is a LIAR plain and simple and certainly not qualified to be President much less Commander in Chief.

I'm with you. The amazing thing is NOT that as little as 25% find that Hillary is "trustworthy." It is that as MANY as 25% find her trustworthy. As I used to say of trial lawyers, "I wouldn't trust him to cross the street and change a $5 bill."

We Tarheels warned the world about John Edwards, when he was nominated for Vice President. We let y'all know that we, his home voters, could not tolerate him for another term in the Senate. And that was a warning to the other states that maybe he wouldn't be so hot as a Veep, either,

Now, it looks like we will have the honor of putting two things out of reach for Hilliary. 1) a majority in the convention delegates, and 2) a majority in the popular vote. And maybe, just maybe, those two defects will drive her out of the race for President.

What an honor, to dump she who must not be named, out of the race. Glad to be of service.

Yes, it’s lying but for hillary to not realize that that story would have been big news at that time is beyond the pale, it shows a view of reality that borders on insanity. With all the bloggers, posters on this site, and some in the media - just listening to that story would make anyone sit up and wonder how in hell they missed that event. A videa of her and her daughter running to the car under spiper fire would have been breath taking, even for those of us the cannot stand her and no first lady should be subjected to that sort of thing. The fact it, she was telling a story about a life or death type of event - she could have died, but in the end it wasn’t true. Therefore, she must hold us all in contempt, look at us a really stupid, she must really think of herself as a Queen and we simply need to listen up. She just makes me feel sick. I cannot believe that so many people are actually voting for her, it really makes me feel that we are different in some way, as human beings - I don’t like to think that.

Well said, it is simply incredible that she thinks she can get away with such b.s. (because so many want to allow her to get away with such b.s. and she lives in a cozy liberal bubble of ‘Hillaryland’ most of her waking hours). If it were not for Obambi’s surprising showing in the caucuses and primaries, which has swayed more of the MSM to favor him, we would not see anyone in the liberal media looking so critically at Shrillary.
