Dan Senor: Condoleezza Rice is Pursuing the VP Spot
ABC News ^ | April 06, 2008 | Dan Senor

Posted on 04/06/2008 4:20:07 PM PDT by COUNTrecount

ABCNews’ Mary Bruce Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the Vice Presidential nomination, according to Republican Strategist Dan Senor. “Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite. “There's this ritual in Washington, the Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders, about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” Senor explained. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The first time a Secretary of State has visited the Wednesday Meeting.”

Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of Senator John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign. “What the McCain campaign has to consider is whether or not they want to pick a total outsider, a fresh face, someone a lot younger than him, a governor who people aren't that familiar with. The challenge they're realizing is that they'll have to have to spend 30-45 days, which they won't have at that point, educating the American public about who this person is,” Senor said. “The other category is someone who people instantly say, the second they see that announcement, I get it, that person could be president tomorrow. Condi Rice is an option.”

Personally I think Fred Thompson would be a good choice. He would go a ways toward appeasing us real conservatives who consider McCain to be nothing but a freakin' RINO.

Something tells me that McCain isn’t exactly going to want to be associated with too many members of the Bush administration.

So many around here have suggested Colin Powell. He too was Secretary of State, and an Army General. But he is as old as McCain.

At least Rice understands and supports the SECOND Amendments -- no registration, no bans of defensive weapons.

I’m always floored by these RINOS, like William Krystol, who swoon over Ms. Rice.

No one ever asks these swooners to explain what Condi Rice’s positions are on social issues, taxation, Supreme Court nominees etc. I’m afraid that she is well to the left of Free Republic dogma.

The Democrats are eating their own right now. Why in the world would McCain not pick a bonafide conservative running-mate to seal his election in November ?

IMO McCain will choose someone who can help bring conservatives in without alienating moderates, who has been thouroughly vetted (no surprises), and has credibility on economic issues adminstrative experience. Most importantly it needs to be someone with the gravitas to be taken seriously as a potential president given McCain’s age. If I had to put money on it, I would bet he will pick Romney.

Give it to her! She is the ORIGINAL owner of the “Surge” Strategy. She fought Dummy-Rummy tooth and nails and finally W came to his senses and the Iraq War was turned around.

Purist would commit suicide. So be it. Condi is SOLID Republican and good enough Conservative.

Think about it. Dems are going to get either Ovary or Ebony and they can’t decide which. Half of them would be heartbroken.

Condi combines the two!!! We got a winner here! C’mon Mac, be brave and be smart.

This is McCain’s election to win or lose. By adding Condi,
he will lose.
There are a ton of Democrats (and Repubs) that will not vote for “the woman” or “the black”, who are crossing over to McCain. This would send them all back. Just reality.

I am having a real hard time trying to vote for McCain but if he adds Condi into the mix I don't see how I can. Condi is a waste and if they should get elected it would set her up for 2012 and that would be a disaster for the party and the nation. I haven't missed a presidential election since 1964 and would hate to miss this one.

Romney is even more socially liberal and pro-abortion than McCain, as well as being a big spender. He’s a somewhat less disagreeable person, but I don’t see him as being a conservative solution by a long shot! And Thompson, whatever his virtues, is another old man with no energy. We don’t need that.

I think we have to look somewhere else. I would have been happy with Condi a couple of years ago, but State has eaten her brain and she sounds like another mushy pro-Arab liberal; in addition, she’s pro-abortion, although at least she’s been fairly quiet about it.

A few years ago this would have been a good move, but now the bloom is off the rose with Condi. As far as the great unwashed public is concerned, she is part and parcel of Bush’s “failure” (not my term, but the common perception) in Iraq. No, McCain needs someone who is far removed from Bush’s circle.

I like Fred Thompson but he’s nearly as old as Mac, and also has the health issue of cancer. Mac needs someone younger, more conservative, and healthier, who has not been overly associated with Bush. Who do we have...?

See Rice: Start making sense

Jihad Watch http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/009693.php "Condoleeza Rice, for various reasons, is deemed untouchable. She is The One Who Must Be Obeyed and Never Criticized. Nonsense. Her bullying of Israel is only part of it. But because it is so obviously based on an almost willful incomprehension of Islam, and of why the Arabs and Muslims have been engaged in a relentless campaign against that state, it is worth emphasizing.

Not understanding that no Infidel nation-state can possibly be contemplated by Arab Muslims, and particularly not one that is under the control of the much-despised yahudim (Jews), and that the size of Israel does not matter in the least, Rice keeps promoting, or parroting the idea of, the "two-state solution" (and we know it must be a "solution" because otherwise they would not have called it a "solution," now would they?). She does not understand that the divisions among "Palestinians" are only about means, and tactics, not about ultimate ends.

Rice’s ignorance is matched only by her incomprehension. She still thinks that territorial "compromise" is the path to peace – “compromise” in this case meaning continued Israeli surrender of territory to which it has a legal, historic and moral claim (including the claims under the League of Nations' Mandate for Palestine, which she really should take the time to read and study. She should then also to read and study about the history of the non-Arabs and non-Muslims in what she seems to think is "the Arab world".

And because Rice does not understand what Islam is all about, she also does not understand that its menace will not be diminished in any way by the creation of a viable nation-state called Iraq. Such a state will not be a "Light Unto the Muslim Nations" and will do nothing to diminish the power of the Islamic jihad imperative.

2. McCain is a maverick and will pick someone he can relate to and get along with and help him win states. I am not sure how Condi helps that much.
