Here is the crux of the problem as I see it. ALL developed countries offer free (granted taxpayers like us pay for it) public education up to a certain level. I don’t see any way that the US could put an end to that.

It is far easier to convince poor people in developing countries to sacrifice for an opportunity than it would be to convince many Americans to start paying for something that was once free.

I’m not saying that I wouldn’t support it, I’m saying that I don’t see any chance of it happening.

I don't think it could happen in one go. The (needed) abolition of governments schools --- and increases in the responsibility and liberty of parents --- would have to happen gradually and incrementally.

I am please to say it's already happening. Maybe you're already aware of the Alliance for the Separation of School and State.

But another woman, a mother, disagreed: "I think that education at that age is appropriate because our culture is saturated with messages about sex," she said.

So saturate 'em with one more message about sex. Lady, you ARE the problem. I recommend the book "The Plague Journal" by Michael D. O'Brien.

Bad idea. 11 year old girls are still growing up.

Too many people are immature. Just because one has children, it does not make them mature. In fact they are just as immature as the children.

HOLY COW!

The proposed program has attracted controversy, with some people accusing the schools of taking away parental power and encouraging children to have sex too early. But school officials dispute these claims.

Of course they will dispute the claims, if they didn't, they would have to admit they overstepped the bounds. They ARE taking away parental power! DUH!

I am not encouraging this, and am totally against it for the reasons of parental rights, as well as my pro-life stand. However, my next question is this, do they have access to the students medical records to know that it will be medically safe for the students? I had a Dr put me on birth control pills and not even check my medical history. The box indicated, DO NOT USE IF ...history of migraines! My male GP was so worried about giving me the no-sex-before-marriage speech that he never checked my medical history! I had a severe migraine that COULD HAVE been a stroke instead. Who is going to protect these youngsters against anything similar?? The school certainly better not have access to their medical records... they are stepping TOO FAR over the line. The government does not need control of our children in this way, or any other...

I can't believe that parents can be so apathetic that they will give a school this much control and responsibility!

Actually it does more than cause cancer....it increases the divorce rate. Read up on the abstinence teachings of Victoria Thorn, backed by science, and they will find truth to that statement. It changes the body chemistry in such a way that the way God made us was to be able to choose a genetically correct mate through pheromones (did I spell it right?) is now altered. The scent given off and the interpretation have changed, been altered, by the chemicals in the contraceptives. This altering has led us to choose a mate that is not acceptable according to our genetic make-up, and eventually ends up with divorce. Interesting stuff...backed by science...about how God created our bodies so intelligent that, had man not messed with it, we would be fine in more ways than one! The Catholic church knows about this stuff...they teach it if anyone will listen. Vicki goes around the world teaching her abstinence program.

Government controlled drugs are ok, but dare one of those children bring an aspirin to school.

The madness continues...

It was a VERY interesting and enlightening workshop! If you are near a Catholic church, reach the diocese and ask them if there will be a workshop by Vicki Thorn, or if they have her information available. If they haven’t had her there to visit the Catholic schools and give her abstinence program, ask them what they are waiting for!! Just when you thought you knew it all, you can learn more. ::grin:: It is great at explaining the reason for abstinence and then the reason for not using contraceptives. It advocates natural family planning, which is how God created our bodies anyway!! Why fight it?! ::stepping off my soapbox for Vicki::

I live in Denver, so if our Archbishop isn’t already aware, he will be very receptive.
I also have excellent contacts in our Parish school.
