The Shape of the Race to Come

By WILLIAM KRISTOL

April 7, 2008

I’ve spent a fair amount of time the last couple of weeks with conservatives of all ages and leanings. Call it my very own listening tour.

It began with a series of conversations with a group of Weekly Standard subscribers. Then, last week, I had lunch with the only three conservatives in Cambridge, Mass.; participated in an event in New York with the leadership of Vets for Freedom; mixed and mingled with Republicans before a speech in Michigan; and, on Friday, attended a reception for friends of Bill Buckley after his memorial service at St. Patrick’s, then discussed politics that evening with conservative college students at Georgetown University.

Apart from accumulating a few frequent flier miles, what do I have to show for my travels? I can report that lots of conservatives and Republicans expect Barack Obama to be our next president.

Some Republicans are grasping at the idea that a long, bitter fight for the Democratic nomination will weaken Obama. Their hopes are about to be dashed. After the results are in from Pennsylvania on April 22, or from Indiana and North Carolina on May 6, it should become clear that Hillary Clinton won’t be able to catch Obama in the overall popular vote. Without that possibility, Clinton won’t have a shot at persuading superdelegates to break her way.

So Clinton will probably concede by mid-May. She’ll be a gracious loser (they’ll hide Bill away somewhere). The weeks that follow will be a Democratic lovefest. And the money will keep pouring in to the Obama campaign, ensuring Democratic dominance of the airwaves in the summer.

The Democratic convention is the last week in August. Shortly before, Obama will pick his running mate.

I read this yesterday, but couldn’t figure out whether it was sarcasm, humor, waste of time or what? Usually BK is right on the money. This article didn’t go anywhere. The Title was pretty cool and that’s where it ended.

Would Obama be foolish enough to pick the Beast as his running mate? I think not. He wouldn’t last long.

The presidential debates will also provide an opportunity. Expectations for Obama will be too high, people will forget he isn’t as good a debater as he is a speaker — and McCain could well rise to the occasion.

Kristol's on crack, plain and simple. This is what the debates are going to end up being a replay of:

Charismatic, eloquent young left-winger versus doddering, tongue-tied and perpetually dyspeptic old right-winger.

Oh, yeah. THAT always works out well for the Republican party.

Yeah Right Bill K. There are only 3 Conservatives in Cambridge or are you sucking up to subscribers?
I actually am starting to believe that we might be able to ditch The Haughty One in Nov.

Political analysis is so simple these days - Imagine trying to predict the flow of the 1960 election:

"... and during the summer, the Democratic candidate's father, after introductions by that most famous of Las Vegas singers, will likely be having a golf game with a mob figure who is in a position to deliver the key state needed to win. The only question, "Can the price be met?"

I saw a funny bumper sticker today. It simply said: “I miss Nixon.” I don't, but he still would be head and shoulders above the current crop from both parties.

“Then, last week, I had lunch with the only three conservatives in Cambridge, Mass.;”

A conservative in that town is anyone slightly to the right of Karl Marx. Which, since this is Kristol, is just about what he thinks conservatism is.

Ogonowski lost by a cheating percentage To Nikki the Twikki
Tsongas up in Lowell in an extremely D area, special election for Mahty the Fahty’s money laundering plan to take over U.Mass/Lowell.

There actually are D’s here who are disgusted with them all..
but as usual with these useless A holes the first sentence is always “What’s in it for me?
However even the Moonbats now realize that voting for Gov. Deval Telletubbie was the equivalent to getting the Shaft.

The Governor is now a Dweeb and is Obamamessiah’s Dweeb..
Devil Boy is just passing time waiting to become Obama’s bitch in his prayed for “elevation” to the next level.
None of my Liberal friends will talk politics now, they are nervous.
Obama’s another Deval, HRC is more of the same Clinton Crap and this will be A Kennedy battle extraordinaire!

Teddy loves
Johnny Boy , they been CYA ‘in for ever.

Life in this state sucks for the “have less crowd”, unions are becoming a little less popular and the “have less crowd” has been successfully indoctrinated into hating and envying anyone who has more.

Hopefully folks are sick of both Kerry, Kennedy and Deval simultaneously. They may vote McCain which isn’t much of a choice to me or you.

But it could very well be the first straw.

The Moonbats will be feeling the Economy BS and will pretend like they don’t have a pot to piss in.
No Donations.

/Masshole rant out!

With one small correction you are correct!

Kristol went nowhere with either his premises or his inconclusions. The fact of the matter is that the dimwits are going to continue to hassle it out and it will go all the way to the convention. The reason is that the dimwit longtimers are in on the wisdom that Baraq can’t win. They are even more ambivalent than Kristol. ALL of the blue pinpricks on the last electoral map (i.e., the cities w/ universities) are even more ambivalent than Kristol. None of them can figure out how this could have happened to them. The dimwits are in real trouble, and they know it.
And here we sit moaning about our lame candidate. We have been given a gift horse, and instead of riding it to the White House, we grouse as we look it in the mouth and up its other end, too. Hell, we might as well just enjoy this one and take it for what it’s worth. A little enthusiasm might be nice, too.
I, for one, take it to heart — not only when I hear dimwits commiserate that McCain is their worst nightmare, but also that they are locked in a death spiral between two more communists that have no way of winning (and the one with the lead is going to lose 40 states).

Don't forget that any white male who challenges Obama on ANYTHING will instantly be cast as a RACIST.

There is no way that McCain can beat Obama-lama-The Racist-Ding-Dong.

I'll give you any number of ways, notably, America is never going to elect a guy who demonstrably hates the country. That might play on the MSM, where there is considerable anti-American sentiment; but across the length and breadth of this great land, there resonates a consensus that this was and is the greatest country that ever existed.

Notably, too, are comments like "typical white person".
