Apes, chimps, and other primates closely related to humans have an extra, 13th rib. Somewhere along the line, as brute, ape-like creature evolved into civilized humankind, that rib was lost.

That's not correct. Chimps don't have 13 ribs. Sorry.

Our closest cousins, chimpanzees and gorillas, have an extra set of ribs. Most of us have 12, but 8 percent of adults have the extras.

If I'm incorrect, I stand corrected. However, this article is now all over the web.
