I know you were being sarcastic, but there's actually some truth to your statement. The ruling class Mexicans have a much higher percentage of Spanish (European) blood, than most of the ones coming into America, and often refer to them as "mountain indians".
In 1958 while studying in Mexico City, I stayed briefly with a disfunctional family of 3 middle aged Mexican spinsters of European blood. Their youngest sister had recently married a successful businessman. The only one of the family to get married. Their comment on the situation was a snobishly disapproving “she married and Indian.”
