Don't know if things are any different than about 40 years ago, but ...

A good friend, no longer with us, a cop in a major city, had his wife adorned with some fine jewelry from various jewelry heists.

He confided in me ... "What the hell ... the insurance is paying it off anyway ..."

IF you're the first responder to a robbery, smash n' grab .. etc.

Indeed, this is far more normal than some posters would like to believe.

In cases where large amounts of drug cash are being confiscated, who could not believe some of that cash never makes it to the evidence room in some cases. Faced with XXXXXXX dollars, time after time, and knowing the government is about to steal it anyway (or, in lesser amounts, your sergeant, or the LT or the guy next to you), after a while even the most morally upstanding person is going to be in serious danger of a fall.
