Crayola Celebrates Colorful Milestone

Company Introduces 8 New 'Kids' Choice' Colors

UPDATED: 12:18 pm EDT April 10, 2008

Crayola celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Crayola 64 Box with the introduction of eight new "Kids' Choice Colors."

The iconic box, complete with a built-in sharpener, first debuted on the Captain Kangaroo show in 1958.

To celebrate the anniversary, Crayola introduced eight new colors selected by children to tell a story about what's important to today's youth.

The new colors include Super Happy, Fun in the Sun, Giving Tree, Bear Hug, Awesome, Happy Ever After, Famous and Best Friends.

More than 200 million Crayola 64 Boxes have been sold over the last 50 years, according to the company's Web site.

Not many things in life cooler than a brand new box of crayons.

Yes, that’s clearly what one was named. You are so smart.

I might put a fridge box above a box of crayolas. But, I did love melting crayons on our cast iron radiators. That was cool.

They put on a contest for children to name these new colors. It isn't hard to see that it was their christian hating commie teachers who named them with names like "giving tree" instead of a c name a child would say, like "Christmas tree".

You’re right. I think you should make it your mission to find every last box of crayons with that color in it and destroy them. Ready? Go!

How many non-primary colors can you remember (without Googling)?

1. Magenta
2. Burnt Sienna
3. Periwinkle
4. Midnight blue
5. The flesh colored one - Putty or Beige?

My favorite Crayola Crayon color was "Flesh" but they discontinued it several years ago.

Perhaps the contest was run by one of those Christmas is pagan Christian people?

Why? Instead of donating cash to schools for supplies for "the needy children", buy boxes of the competitors brand and donate those to the school.

Make sure you get your receipt for the suggested retail value, not for what you actually paid for them for tax purposes...

Okay, I'll try but I may be making some up unintentionally.

Forest Green
Navy Blue (does that count as a primary?)
Dandelion
Maize
Red-Orange and Orange-Red (they're a mix, they don't count, lol)
Salmon
Copper
Violet-Red
Burnt Umber (?)
Melon
Canary Yellow

Okay, my mind is now toast.

I’ve never found another crayon with the qualities that Crayola has. Rose Art and all the others are way too waxy.

I always like silver and copper. I also like the way they looked right out of the box. As a kid it fascinated me.

I was always disappointed in the silver, gold, and white crayons.

They looked so promising, but always just sucked.

Who's with me here?

Totally with you. You expected them (the silver and copper) to pretty much sparkle when you used them. Instead they were a dull grey and a dull brown.
