Now the Shia-led Iraqi government focuses on its chief Shia nemesis. How the Iraqi government handles Sadr matters. In August 2004, Sadr's thugs grabbed the Grand Mosque in Najaf. Sadr was counting on Americans to bomb the mosque. The United States opted to follow the political lead of Shia Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani. Sistani's aides told coalition officers: "Let us deal with Sadr. We know how to handle him and will do so. However, the coalition must not make him a martyr."
The Iraqi way often appears to be indecisive, until you learn to look at its counter-insurgency methods in the frame of achieving political success, instead of the frame of American presidential elections.
In southern Iraq and east Baghdad, Sadr once again lost street face. Despite the predictable media umbrage, this translates into political deterioration.
Think of the Iraqi anti-Sadr method as a form of suffocation, a political war waged with the blessing of Ayatollah Sistani that requires daily economic and political action, persistent police efforts and occasional military thrusts.

This is they way to look at Iraqi government's method against Sadr. How to put him down without allowing his followers to make a Christ-figure from him.
Agreed. Sadr looks more like Dukakis these days.
In less than two weeks, with Muqtadas Murderers still holding out in some parts of the city..Sure is eye opening to see how quickly the people have thrown off the rules that Muqtadas thugs were oppressing them with, and have returned to a much more cosmopolitan lifestyle...Cant you just *feel* the love regular Basrans have for Muqtada *now*? BWAHAHAHAHAaaaaa!
And in the meantime his thugs are killing Americans.
F*** that. Put a bullet in his ass NOW. Then put a bullet into whatever thug rises up to take his place. Repeat as necessary.

Progress.
People can complain about the pace but when you look at what we go through here in the US where opposition part members accuse the President of lying, murder and other malfeasance in a time of war and their support for the guys killing our soldiers and marines it's mind boggling....
Good story...thanks for posting it.
Hey, Sadr isn't that bad. He still has more than three folowers.
Put a bullet in his head!
Love your plan and pray for its implementation.
Screw this 'finesse' method of dealing with this murderer.
His 'militia' is responsible for the deaths of American troops on his direct orders!
Mookie needs to die. Now. And he needs to die in a spectactularly public fashion leaving no doubt who did it and why.
I suggest a .50 caliber bullet to the forehead during one of his little rallies or better yet while he's screaming 'jihad' in 'his' mosque.
Maybe if his followers have to spend a couple hours scrubbing Mookies brain matter off themselves they'll reconsider their future course of action.

Nah I suggest a full belt be used...Starting at his feet, up to his stomach, then up each arm, and the rest into his chest. Leaving the head and face alone, to make sure he is easily identified, when his cotpse is shown on TV, for all Iraqis, the Devil worshiping clerics in Iran, and all the rest of the world to see, how the evil, greedy, power hungry, fat little trained pig of Khamenei’s, ended up.
...Or at least shoot him in the side of his head, to keep the face intact. >Bo)

I agree. I would set him up in much the same way he has tried to set us up in the past. I would do it in such a way that it would evoke the maximum reaction from his army. I would be ready with triple force for that reaction and I would obliterate him,his army, and all of his morners.
The Iraqi government would announce: "There would be no marches in the streets. Any mourning for this guy would be done indoors, in private."
His is one funeral I'd cheerfully cluster bomb.
