FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Republican Rep. Geoff Davis apologizing to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Monday after referring to him as "that boy."

Addressing a Republican gathering Saturday night, the Kentucky lawmaker said, "That boy's finger does not need to be on the button." Davis was talking about political and national security issues at an annual GOP dinner.

Davis' campaign said it sent a letter to Obama apologizing for the remark, which was widely reported on blogs and newspaper Web sites, including the Lexington Herald-Leader.

"My poor choice of words is regrettable, and was in no way meant to impugn you or your integrity," Davis wrote in the letter delivered to Obama's Washington office Monday afternoon. "I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness."

Earlier, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said, "It's hard to tell what is more outrageous - Representative Davis' condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America."

The letter was released by Davis campaign manager, Jeremy Hughes.

Davis, who represents Kentucky's 4th Congressional District, has two Republican challengers in the GOP primary May 20. The winner will face Democrat Michael Kelley, a northern Kentucky physician.

Well, this guys career is over. Doesn’t matter that Obama directly called ME a racist because I’m a ‘Typical White Woman’ who WILL cross the street to avoid a gang of young, male thugs.

I hate Socialists. Truly. I do.

So now it’s “absurd and offensive” to say out loud that one thinks Barack Obama is not qualified to defend America?

Obama’s campaign staff is sounding more and more like PR hacks for a cult.

No apology necessary, Mr. Davis.

Why not include the corrected way of saying it?

“That *man’s* finger does not need to be on the button.”

It sounds as if they are apologizing for the entire remark when it’s the “boy” reference that is sensitive to some.

He’s from Kentucky, that’s the way people talk. Why are we always apologizing...FOR NOTHING!

I think he should have called him “monkey boy”.

Much ado about nothing, at least with the “boy” comment. What I want to know is more about this “nuclear simulation” in which Obama “could not make a decision”. That is seriously scary stuff.

How old is Davis? I am in my late 40s and always refer to college aged people as “kids.” Maybe that’s all he meant. Still in this era where one politically incorrect word can end a career, he should have thought of saying “guy” or some other word instead.

I have little doubt that before long some words will be outlawed. How frightening. Yet the civil liberties crowd is more concerned about the rights of terrorists who have some water poured on their head.

"My poor choice of words is regrettable, and was in no way meant to impugn you or your integrity." "I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness."

"If I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that." "The underlying truth of what I said remains."

Next time try Obanics.

He’s still toast. He’s a REPUBLICAN who referred to a black man as ‘boy’.

Just the start of what lies ahead. Everything, everything will come down to race. If Obama steals money from the White House canteen, accusers will be racist!

No one should refer to a man of any colar as a boy. However, notice that it is perfectly acceptable for a black person (male or female) to refer to a white man as “white boy”. It just can’t be done the other way. Another one of those double standards you know. I guess “white boys” just don’t have that thin skin thing goin. Know whut I mean?

And by apologizing Rep. Davis has added credibility to the leftist thought police who have now added the word “boy” to the list of words we can no longer say or use in certain circumstances. My guess is that unless Davis apologized he was threatened with be charged with a hate crime.
