Beware of Chertoff's Promise to Secure Border

Build the U.S. Border Fence Now!

Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff and the Bush administration are deservedly under assault for not keeping their promises. After a long public outcry over promises broken, the government says they have agreed to construct a border fence. But this is Washington, promises aren't meant to actually be honored. Chertoff and the Bush administration are creating needless public controversy about the fence over what must be done to and with the land, and they are exploiting a backdoor Democrat Party and Open Borders Lobby effort that provides a smoke screen for the feds to hide behind and do nothing about the promises already made to build a border security barrier.

You and I both understand that in the real world, when you say you're going to do something, you do it. The deadline set by the feds themselves for installing a new border fence is quickly approaching. Plans to make it real should have long since been implemented. The problem is Chertoff and the Bushies don't really want the fence, and have been delaying construction by hiding behind all the red tape.

They allow the border invasion to continue and U.S. citizens die at the hands of illegal aliens. They claim they have been completely stymied in finalizing the path of the fence because of sacred Indian burial grounds, wildlife habitats, eco-impacted rivers and streams, and places of cultural significance all more important to local citizens than U.S. national security priorities. Never mind that the U.S. Federal Government already owns a 60 foot right of way all along the entire border, and could act at any time it chooses.

In order for the fence to be put up as proposed by Chertoff, it would take months, if not years to get approval for construction of a fence through these controversial areas on private or protected land. Knowing this, the Secretary decided to go ahead and announce that he will just break all kinds of environmental and special constituency laws and create a public relations and legal backlash that will tie up the project for years. This tactic is unacceptable and we demand that the National Guard be placed on the border immediately while the fence is built on U.S. Federal Government right of way, as a national security project.

Don't Buy the Misinformation!

Moreover, the truth is the fence Chertoff is talking about trying to make law-abiding Americans hate is NOT the double layered fence that was promised to us and signed into law. This is a partial fencing project with vehicle barriers that have proven ineffective at stopping pedestrian crossings. Illegal aliens easily and frequently cross these types of barriers.

The Department of Homeland Security has misled us about the amount of border fence in play, as well. They have claimed 302 miles built as of 2/6/08, however, this "fencing" consists of 145 miles of vehicle barrier, 78 miles of old railroad tie-fencing that was already in place, and 79 miles of pedestrian barriers. Less than 10 miles of the promised double-layered fencing has been installed!

It would be refreshing to see a politician actually be a leader instead of sitting there like a special interest or mainstream media ventriloquist's dummy. We elect our representatives to lead this nation in a time of peril, not to follow the whims of the mob. They are in place to evaluate our situation, hear out our concerns, and then to make the best decision they can as our representatives. Sometimes these decisions aren't popular, but they are necessary for the good of the people. Even the majority vote isn't always the right decision, and that is why we need real leaders to represent us, not a polling machine.

Mr. Chertoff exercised what some are calling an "extreme abuse of authority." The Bush administration announced bluntly they have decided to waive almost 30 laws that could have hindered the construction of the border fence. Presumably, they didn't do this on the fly; authority was granted by Congress to make exceptions of this kind. But they have proceeded in a typically ham-fisted, jack-booted public presentation that is alienating many who actually support border security. Incompetence, or maliciousness by the Bush administration?

Chertoff had this to say, "Criminal activity at the border does not stop for endless debate or protracted litigation, and Congress and the American public have been adamant that they want and expect border security. We're serious about delivering it, and these waivers will enable important security projects to keep moving forward. At the same time, we value the need for public input on any potential impact of our border infrastructure plans on the environment – and we will continue to solicit it."

Bold Words Now Let's See Some Action.

Bold words need to be backed up with bold action. Take a stand and help us put an exclamation point to the Chertoff statement that "Criminal activity at the border does not stop for endless debate or protracted litigation!" Chertoff has yet to show this government legal maneuver as a mark of true leadership for national security, and not a political ploy to divide law-abiding citizens over principle versus process, and thereby actually galvanize resistance to border fence construction.

MCDC calls on Secretary Chertoff to keep this administration's promise, honor the intent of Congress in the Secure Fence Act, do not give in to mainstream media and Open Borders Lobby criticisms – and do the right thing for the safety, security and sovereignty of America. Most importantly, we call on Secretary Chertoff to be a leader of trust, a person of character unmindful of political agendas or personal career gain who puts the American people first this time. If he does so, we won't forget it. Should he fail to, we won't forget it.

Will our federal government choose to keep this new promise made, or continue to leave us with a broken, hemorrhaging and increasingly dangerous border?

Keep calling your Senators today, toll free numbers include 1-877-851-6437 and 1-866-220-0044, or call toll 1-202-225-3121 AND REGISTER YOUR OUTRAGE at ongoing efforts to ram through Amnesty!

CALL PRESIDENT BUSH, 202-456-1111 and 202-456-1414 expressing your disdain and ABSOLUTE REJECTION of AMNESTY and special citizenship provisions for illegal aliens, and to emphasize the need to redeploy National Guard troops on the border. It's time to make BORDER SECURITY our FIRST NATIONAL SECURITY PRIORITY.

DO NOT BE SILENCED – MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

Tell the politicians that their failures to act are a treasonous betrayal of the rule of law! They are sworn to uphold the rights and duties of American citizenship – not undermine and debase them! THEY NEED TO KEEP THEIR OATH OF OFFICE, PROTECT AND DEFEND AMERICA, AND WORK TO SECURE OUR BORDERS NOW!

Sincerely for these United States,

Carmen Mercer MCDC Vice President Director of Government Affairs

They allow the border invasion to continue and U.S. citizens die at the hands of illegal aliens.

THEY either are crazy or are deliberately ruining the United States by diluting the populace with lice-carrying Mexican castoffs!

Who'd have thought that a Bush would promise one thing to get elected, then do the opposite.

These two A-holes have no intention of building a real security fence. They with the Texas bitch, Kay Baily Hutchinson, have so dumbed down the whole think it is a joke.

And now with Bush endorsing global warming, in order to deprive Americans of their freedom, I think this man should be put on trial for treason! Just watch things go very awry before the general election.

These political animals insult the American people by thrwarting what we truly want!

If, under the Eisenhower administration, they could round up and delete this border scum then it surely could happen again.

The globalist, socialist, gorebal warming nut-cases will never do what America needs in order to survive. Their very actions and inactions are suffocating a once great nation.

I have compared the central government to a train. As each administration rolls by another car is added to the train we must pull!

Hooray for the revolution.

I think the Bushies want to hand the country over to a true, died-in-the-wool communist who will boldly finish what these elitists have started.

There sure is a lot of “bitterness” on this thread. Somebody call Obama.

Obama will bring us all together.

That's what's needed. We must join in lockstep with a candidate who truly loves his country and is willing to undo all the lard that our political class has added to our central government.

One who will get the junkies off welfare, push for drilling our own oil, ease off the regulation so we can build more refineries and slash federal employees by about 65%!

I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm sick and and tired of pulling this damned train!

E-ALERT

Bill Allowing Unlimited Foreign Workers On Fast Track (H.R. 1843)

HELP STOP IT!

Help push “Fence by Date Certain Act” (H.R. 4987)!

Help push a “Salvation from Mass Immigration” Bill —Zero-Net-Immigration MORATORIUM

The American Economy is moving into a Deepening Recession and Unemployment is Rising, but that hasn’t stopped leading House Republicans and Democrats from putting a Bill allowing UNLIMITED FOREIGN WORKERS on the fast track to passage!

The deceptively tilted “Save Our Small and Seasonal Business Act” H.R. 1843 sponsored by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich), and pushed by Republican Conference Chairman Adam Putnam (R-Fla) would allow UNLIMITED temporary non-agricultural workers to come work in the USA.

Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La) recently filed a Discharge Petition when the Bill garnered over 145 Co-Sponsors!

This Bill now becomes a Real Threat to pass! The Companion Bill in the Senate (S.B. 988) has 39 Co-Sponsors already!

That Bill attacks the livelihoods of Americans working in Construction, Landscaping, Food Services, Tourism, and related industries. They need help in stopping this Bill or they can kiss their jobs goodbye!

And of course all of us would be paying increased taxes to provide Education, Health Care, and Social Services to these workers and their families if the Bill passes, just as we do for the legal and illegal immigrants already here!

Instead, PUSH a really good Bill: The “Yes” on “Fence by Date Certain” Act (H.R. 4987, Jones, R-NC) would mandate construction of an actual double layer physical fence along over 700 miles of Border by June, 2009.

This Fence by Date Certain Bill is much stronger than the SAVE Act (H.R. 4088, Shuler, D-NC) which, though it is pushed by Members of Congress whom we admire, has serious flaws. Among the flaws are that it would establish a proto-National ID Card, and would authorize a mere Virtual Fence. Pushing a mere Virtual fence relieves pressure to get an actual Physical Fence built.

So Contact your Members of Congress and Insist:

NO!!…………on H.R. 1843 (Save Our Small and Seasonal Business Act)

NO!!…………on S.B. 988 (Companion Bill to H.R. 1843, in Senate)

YES!!…………on H.R. 4987 (Fence By Date Certain Act)

YES!!…………on Zero-Net-Immigration MORATORIUM, to let Congress know you want an end to Mass Immigration and create pressure to pass good Bills like H.R. 4987.

You demand a fence now and when he bypasses laws to make it happen, you call it an "extreme abuse of authority", claim it is some kind of under-handed tactic, then you go right back to demanding action again...that makes absolutely no sense at all. And what is with this "They claim they have been completely stymied"...excuse me, but there are actual law suits that have been filed, it is not a "claim", that was the reason for the waiver in the first place. He has even recently stated publicly that in the past, administrations were "worn down" by the lawsuits and political pressure and ended up doing nothing and he wants to change that.

Even if the federal government does have a 60-foot right of way, you overlook the fact that they must cross private or local public property to get to it, which totally renders your point moot. Section 564 of the Homeland Security section of the Omnibus Appropriations Bill supersedes earlier legislation and states that he is now required to consult with the communities, so his hands are still tied. And an important fact that you also conveniently overlook is that the river is an international boundary controlled by the International Boundary and Water Commission, which holds the right of way on nearby levees where the fence is planned and without the commission’s permission, neither side can erect an obstruction that changes the flow, floodway of the river, or causes erosion, because that in effect is changing a national boundary.

Look, I want a border fence and security just as much as anyone else...I backed Tancredo's plan in 1995 even though I thought it didn't go far enough... but this kind of irrational paranoid rant is way over the top and some of the comments on this thread are offensive. We are supposed to be rational adults here, this is not DU, is it too much to ask that we please act accordingly?

Too bad Tancredo didn’t make more of a splsh. I had $600 riding on that man and he didn’t come even close.

The only way they will ever secure that border is to keep all of us from trying to escape the mess they created in this country.

You've got it.

Because of the mess our elite political class (includes elected and other government leeches)has made of our once 'pristine' nation (pristine now can only be used to describe that Arctic wasteland where even the polar bears won't p-ss)this country is becoming a psychic nightmare.

We're rubbing more than mere shoulders with the castoff scum that slink across our southern border. They're here, they're going to stay, and they want to eat our lunches, steal our goods, rape and kill our women, and in general, make our lives more miserable than our political class could even dream of.

The government schools are churning out misfits by the millions. They have no job skills, but they have learned that loving another of the same sex in the homosexual way is perfectly normal.

If only the fools that vote like robots could sit down and take a true look at all the taxes they pay.

Only a mere handful of politicians have a clue as to what their actions and inactions have done to this nation, but they are helpless. Most Republicrats cross over the aisle and embrace what passes for opposition. They drink, golf, visit and in many cases sleep with the opposition while America declines.

I believe the move to disarm America, which I understand is tied in to the UN also, is mostly because they are afraid everyone might finally wake up mad as he** and refuse to take it anymore.

They know they bungled it all, they are in too deep now and are just riding the wave.
