"DIFFERENT OPINIONS"

Jimmy Carter was on the West Bank today. He met with, and reportedly hugged, a senior Hamas official. He placed a wreath on Yasser Arafat's grave. (One of Carter's hosts helpfully explained that "Arafat's resting place was temporary, and the Palestinians hope to move his remains to Jerusalem one day.") The U.S. government has criticized Carter's determination to meet with Hamas, and Israeli officials are more or less shunning the former President.

Carter defends his mission to Hamas in these terms:

Carter acknowledged Tuesday he was not on an official mission and had "no authority at all."

"I'm not a negotiator. I'm just trying to understand different opinions and provide communication between people," Carter said.

Hamas proclaims that it wants to destroy the state of Israel and kill the Jews who live there. Israelis want to preserve their country and don't want to be murdered. These are not "different opinions." The desire to murder and the desire to avoid being murdered are not on an equal footing, and cannot be reconciled through talk or through understanding.

It's always an open question whether Carter is a knave or a fool, but in this instance, with everyone from the Secretary of State to Israel's Prime Minister pointing out the folly of his mission, the balance tilts toward "knave."

Is a Carter a fool or a knave? The two hypotheses are not mutually exclusive.

No, he chose this moment to try to sabotage the 60th anniversary. For a former president to kiss the grave of a diseased murderer like arafat is unbelieveable.

Carter needs to read "Because They Hate" by Brigitte Gabriel. Actually, I recommend it for every single American.

Unfortunately; Jimmy Carter will not be happy until his legacy is a head stone with his name on the front and a Urinal bolted to the back.

Have Israeli authorities not allowed Arafat to be buried in Jerusalem? The city as a whole — Palestinians are allowed in at least parts of it, no? Is there some reason Israeli authorities disallowed it, other than “because they could?”

I would have to say, “Some disputes end at the grave” and allow it — but maybe there is an issue here I am unaware of.

That being said, if this is the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel, then yes, I agree, Carter is going out of his way to offend the Jewish people...I’m not sure what is meant by “knave” here.

Carter is a pathetic alpha hotel who is personally responsible for the death of tens of thousands and the starving misery of millions of people. It will be a good say when he is held accountable and receives his final "reward".

The worst part of this is that after he’s hugging murderers and kissing the grave of the disgusting Yasir Arafat, he’s almost certainly going to return to this country. He should only be pelted with rotten tomatoes on his arrival, that lowlife!

If I never had to see this repugnant man’s face or hear his name ever again, I would die a happy woman. He must have his wife and son brainwashed as well (or they share in his mental illness)- they accompanied him.

Having grown up in the 70's, it's hard to believe what he has become.

Tell your daughters "Thank you" for their service.

....and, Thank you.

Thank you for yours also!

You were at NAS Memphis...do you mean Millington? If so, we may have passed each other on the street! I lived in the area at the time. :~)

Yes, Millington is where I left the Navy. I bought my first house there, 5 miles north just inside Tipton county.

lol We may have been neighbors! MY ex got out in ‘91 and we moved to Brighton. My in-laws (ex-Navy man himself) lived there. I lived there and also in Munford.

Yeah. We were stompin' the same ground....and from reading some of your posts, we are again.

It's very nice to make your acquaintance. It's late here on the east coast, I'm off to bed, I have to be in a meeting at 8:00AM.

I look forward to the next time we "cross posts" :~)

G'nite, ma'am.

Carter placed a wreath on the grave of his peace plan.
