Time Magazine Exploits Iwo Jima Photo for Global Warming Alarmism and Angers Iwo Jima Vets
businessandmedia.org ^ | April 17, 2008 | Jeff Poor

For only the second time in 85 years, Time magazine abandoned the traditional red border it uses on its cover. The occasion – to push more global warming alarmism.

The cover of the April 21 issue of Time took the famous Iwo Jima photograph by Joe Rosenthal of the Marines raising the American flag and replaced the flag with a tree. The cover story by Bryan Walsh calls green “the new red, white and blue.”

Donald Mates, an Iwo Jima veteran, told the Business & Media Institute April 17 that using that photograph for that cause was a “disgrace.”

“It’s an absolute disgrace,” Mates said. “Whoever did it is going to hell. That’s a mortal sin. God forbid he runs into a Marine that was an Iwo Jima survivor.”

God, how far will the left-wing media stoop for this global warming nonsense?

Time editor tells MSNBC 'there needs to be a real effort along the lines of World War II to combat global warming and climate change.'

Does he suggest firebombing and nuking the CO2 emitters?

I'm pretty sure it is -- however what do you want to bet that they'll "claim" that it was a parody and therefor a valid exception under the copyright law.

Someone should nuke TIME! Just think of all the trees THAT would save!!

I am honored to be friends with a man who was a Navy Seabee and stood on Mount Suribachi at that instant and watched the scene unfold.

I would gladly hold the editor of the magazine while letting my friend whip his butt(even at 80+ years old).

I use to get Time given to me, no charge, for may waiting room. When they went ultra liberal I just filed it in the circular file. I refuse to pick one up and read the garbage they print, I wasn’t going to poison my patients minds with their leftist commie publication either.

I give them a few more years and they will be out of business.

. The cover story by Bryan Walsh calls green “the new red, white and blue.”

So Time Magazine now questions the patriotism of those (such as myself) who don't buy into the alarmist global warming agenda?

Every time I think that each issue of Time Magazine sucks worse than anything that has ever sucked before, they come out with yet another issue.

An hour ago, I got a call on my Sprint cell phone. The call was a text message from Sprint. The message asked if I was willing to “go Greener!”
Sprint, you are dead to me! Your burial is tomorrow, at your store, so I can raise a stink in person, in public!

I got a call from them last week, but the indian guy who called didn’t have the “go green” script I guess. I’m am about to dump them too, but because my phone sucks, and their corporate stores employ chain smoking idiots who fight for smoke breaks more than performing customer service.

Global Warming is another way of pushing communism. Its why the leftists love it soo much.
A lot of eastern european countries have been vocally opposed to all the global warmning mandates coming out of the EU. Those countries can smell Communist B.S. coming from a mile away. They were just able to finally free themselves from the communist inslavement of the USSR. The last thing they want is another form of it from the new Kremlin in Brussels.

The title you created "Time Magazine Exploits Iwo Jima Photo for Global Warming Alarmism and Angers Iwo Jima Vets" did not match the title at the linked source and had to be changed.

I frequently participate in online media questionnaires from the university where I did my grad work to help them define or refine the alumni magazine. The last one was an online questionnaire about "green" issues. Thinking they would ask about recycled paper, soy-based ink and articles about conservation, I started answering. But on the third page or so, the questionnaire began grilling me in exhaustive detail about my "green" practices in my home and business, as well as my commitments to do even more in the coming year. The program literally would not let me pass from one page to the next without expressing a commitment to replace my lightbulbs or other unproven leftie shibboleths. It was incredibly intrusive, patronizing and Big Brotherish, which I did tell them in the comments space.

Disclaimer: My old man is an Iwo Jima survivor. He was a Pharmacist's Mate First Class (PM1 or Navy Corpsman/Medic for those of you poor souls who were never in the Navy) who went ashore at about noon on D-day.

When was the last time TIME did something that wasn't a disgrace?

As the son of a WWII vet (and a vet myself, and the Dad of 2 in uniform) I’m offended.

As a free-thinking, difficult-to-intimidate scientist, I’m offended.

As an American, I’m offended.

Lt. John Keith Wells, the leader of the platoon that raised the flags on Mt. Suribachi and co-author of “Give Me Fifty Marines Not Afraid to Die: Iwo Jima” wasn’t impressed with Time’s efforts.

“That global warming is the biggest joke I’ve ever known,” Wells told the Business & Media Institute. “[W]e’ll stick a dadgum tree up somebody’s rear if they want that and think that’s going to cure something.”

Right on!

The depravity of the Dims once again shows that it knows no depth. As a former Marine, I am absolutely appalled that this left wing rag would besmirched one of the most cherished symbols of American bravery - for ANY reason - let alone the global warming hoax. Is there nothing besides killing babies that those swine hold sacred in this country?
