New Law Bans Outdoor Smoking

NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio -- A local community is breathing a little easier after a new crackdown on smoking is approved, NewsChannel5 reported.

North Royalton has banned smoking in parks, fields, parking lots and outdoor seating areas or on any city-owned land.

That means there's no smoking at places like the local ballpark, and the new ordinance takes place just in time for little league season.

Council members said they were just exercising the will of the people who want to curb the amount of second-hand smoke they have to breathe.

"We just don't like the cigarette butts laying all over the ground, the little kids walking on it. And smoking and throwing your butts all over the place, so we're kind of happy about it," said resident Terry Nameth Thomas.

The ordinance doesn't apply to city-owned sidewalks.

It also gives the mayor the leeway to create designated smoking areas should he choose.

I am delighted! Smoke is not any less disgusting or dangerous if it is blown in your face from a seat in the Little League bleachers rather than the next restaurant table over.

Smoking belongs in your own home or car, or outside city limits where nobody else has to suffer from your repulsive vice.

Look up Mississippi House Bill 22 that's crafted after the no-smoking laws. I sure hope you're not overweight, because this skinny person will not help you. God help us all.

(Putting things in context)

NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — A local community is breathing a little easier after a new crackdown on farting is approved, NewsChannel5 reported.

North Royalton has banned farting in parks, fields, parking lots and outdoor seating areas or on any city-owned land.

That means there’s no farting at places like the local ballpark, and the new ordinance takes place just in time for little league season.

Council members said they were just exercising the will of the people who want to curb the amount of second-hand fart smell they have to breathe.

“We just don’t like the butts farting around, the little kids smelling it. And farting and throwing your butt all over the place, so we’re kind of happy about it,” said resident Terry Nameth Thomas.

The ordinance doesn’t apply to city-owned sidewalks.

It also gives the mayor the leeway to create designated farting areas should he choose.

If they really want to get serious about it, why not ban the sale of smokes? They won’t go that far because they want the tax money. Double standards. I’m an ex-smoker and I know how tough it is to stop smoking. I’ll never get in anyones face about it. They say that to stop smoking is worse than trying to get off drugs and I believe it. Go after the manufacturers. They are adding addictive products in the smokes.

Nanny state alert.

When I read this I couldn't help but think of Churchill gone horribly wrong.

North Royalton has banned smoking in parks, fields, parking lots and outdoor seating areas or on any city-owned land.

"We shall ban them in the parks, we shall ban them in the fields, we shall ban them in the parking lots."

... and for the record, I hate smoking: when I was single (fairly recently), I would never consider dating a smoker.

This will work like the 20 year war on drugs has worked.

But this will give the mattress tag police some extra work.

Hubby and I will be in Vegas next month where hubby will actually be ALLOWED to enjoy a cigar with this adult beverage with other like-minded adults. Oh, the horror!

While banning outdoor smoking is really stupid, the fellow does have a point about cigarette butts all over the ground. Why are most smokers inconsiderate pigs. The ground around my university building is covered by thousands of cigarette filters. It’s disgusting.
