Iraqi troops have cordoned off the Basra office of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's followers, preventing them from holding Friday prayers.

Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Abdul-Karim Khalaf said the operation is only aimed at recovering offices he said were unfairly occupied by political groups.

Sadr supporters say they have been given 48 hours to leave the premises.

There were no immediate reports of fighting between Iraqi troops and Sadr followers.

“...the operation is only aimed at recovering offices he said were unfairly occupied by political groups. “

These “offices” are more like weapon storage facilities, I’ll bet.....

Yep. Maliki wasn't playing around when he sent troops to Basrah. I heard earlier that the US and Iraqi troops are walling off Sadr city and will force compliance through starvation if necessary.

A good way to handle it would be to build the walls and then fill them with concrete. Would make a great helo landing pad.....

"to bad mookie ain’t inside..."

House arrest in Iraq?

I thought he was hiding in Iran. One thing for sure, he isn't dead yet, so there is a major objective waiting to be completed.
