AP One Word Away From Record for Revealing Arrestee's Republican Roots
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

With the Olympics coming on, what's more poignant than the image of the sprinter hopefully awaiting the official time, only to learn he missed the record by 1/100th of a second? I'm in that same heartbroken mood for the Associated Press this morning. The wire service came so close to equalling the world record for revealing the Republican party affiliation of someone finding himself sideways of the law. Check out the first sentence from this AP story of April 17th:

"A Republican congressional candidate was charged Thursday with felony burglary and criminal trespass stemming from an encounter last year with an ex-girlfriend."

Hmm...they probably omitted the name so as to put a cloud over every Republican congressional candidate...

One word, A, then the term Republican, one word away.

The 2nd word is "Republican".

Thats funny. I just wonder why another dim gets arrested every day and twice on Sunday, and you don't see the word "Democrat" anywhere in the article.

Like "man bites dog" is news, but "dog bites man" is not, so goes political news. It is expected that RATs will be arrested for one thing or another; nothing to see here, move along...

I want "our guys" held to a higher standard anyway. It irks me to call them our guys, but with no viable conservative party, we have to work with what we've got.

The biggest difference between AP and Reuters is that AP knows better than to point a camera at a tank.

This is my House district. On the Republican side we have 9 candidates in the primary, 3 of them rich kids spending their family's money like water to buy a seat in Congress.

About the DA that filed the charges 5 months after the event, in the week before the election:

LOCAL NEWS:

November 3rd, 2007
the GantDaily News Team
Meet the District Attorney Candidates

Clearfield County Courthouse. (GantDaily File Photo)

One of the more hotley contested races in recent memory is for the position of Clearfield County District Attorney. GantDaily requested biogrophies from each of the two candidates, and we also presented each candidate with questions pertaining to the job. This race is between William A. Shaw Jr. and Gary Knaresboro.

Only one candidate responded.

William A. Shaw, Jr.

Democrat

District Attorney

Incumbent? Yes

Hometowns: Clearfield

Bad article - misses the point entirely.

The point is not that the AP didn't reveal the perps Republican roots, the point is that AP did smear all Republican congressional candidates by withholding the perps name!!

We're in trouble when even MSM media critics, ostensibly on our side, can't figure out the enemy's tactics.

Like "man bites dog" is news, but "dog bites man" is not

Exactly.
Back around the time of Bill Bennett's book The Death of Outrage (1998), Mary Matalin correctly observed that nobody is outraged over the disgraceful antics and lying of Bill Clinton and the Democrats precisely because there was nothing surprising about it. It's what everybody expects from Democrats. Therefore, what's to be "outraged" about?

Why do you say the [alleged] perps’s name isn’t revealed? It’s in the AP article. Please read the underlying article, to which I linked, before commenting.

A Republican congressional candidate was charged Thursday with felony burglary and criminal trespass...

Class: You project today is to dissect this high power, politically motivated, attention grabbing first sentence into its primary features. Style and examples, rewording and crossing the political lines gain extra credit.

Begin.
