Nor have we seen a refutation of these charges by Kerry or anybody associated with his campaign.
That is, unless you want to count the New York Times' idle claim that the charges had been "discredited" (they never said how or by whom)...
Vietnam veterans have now been granted popular acceptance, and a multitude of sources are stating they served with courage, commitment, and dedication, while holding to the position SwiftBoat Veteran’s for Truth were a blight on our society. This position directly contradicts John Kerry’s report to the Washington Star, saying, “We established an American presence in most cases by showing the flag and firing at sampans and villages along the banks. Those were our instructions, but they seemed so out of line that we finally began to go ashore, against our orders, and investigate the villages that were supposed to be our targets. We discovered we were butchering a lot of innocent people, and morale became so low among the officers on those ‘swift boats’ that we were called back to Saigon for special instructions from Gen. Abrams. He told us we were doing the right thing. He said our efforts would help win the war in the long run. That’s when I realized I could never remain silent about the realities of the war in Vietnam.” Kerry further testified before Congress saying, “We had an investigation at which over 150 honorably discharged and many very highly decorated veterans testified to war crimes committed in Southeast Asia, not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command…..They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, tape wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the country side of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country”.
Such a position poses a dilemma. Is the first position true? If so, then how are we to regard assertions Swiftboat Veteran’s for Truth made scurrilous and disgraceful attacks when they vehemently contradicted Kerry’s claims about his and others actions in Vietnam. In which roll was John Kerry a great patriot? How do we regard his four months of service in Vietnam, where he was given the Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts? How do we regard his two years of service with Vietnam Veterans Against the War, which the North Vietnamese consider sufficiently valuable to recognize him in their war memorial in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Only the presence of a stunning naiveté approaching the supernatural could not identify a contradiction.
The current position does not offer a means to re-interpret the understanding of others and my service with TF-116. In my little corner of the war on the Ca Mau Peninsula our boats and ships were ordered not to return fire from the village of Nam Can as they transited to and from Seafloat. We were expected to gut it out through the kill zone, because the village was designated by us as a sanctuary from the war for civilians. However, I am popularly and historically considered a victim and un-indicted war criminal, while now at the same having served courageously.

“Swiftboating” is repeatedly presenting truth to the lies told by a political aspirant so that the liar’s plans are foiled and he looks like a fool. JF Kerry is the gold standard example.
Your definitions are certainly convoluting the definition of ‘Swift Boating”. Like reassigning Red and Blue colors to running away from the word liberal, a definition more in tune with a libertarian than a statist such as yourself.
“Swift Boating” is an exposure of a person's falsely defined public image. It is only done by forces outside the media and parties. The media does not ‘Swift Boat” it libels or engages in character assassination. Dan rather was swift-boated. So was Kerry.
If the charges against Kerry were false, he has had plenty of time to refute them,all he has to do is fully release his service records. "

Swiftboating: Exposing the lies, deceit and fraud of self-glorifying public officials or candidates for public office who exaggerate their military service by lying about feats of heroism or combat wounds.
Kerry is a man whose honor wasn’t besmirched as much as his dishonor was revealed.
