Iran Booted From Defense Show for Displaying Missile Systems
April 24, 2008
The Associated Press
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Malaysia's deputy prime minister says Iran has been ordered to leave an international defense show in Kuala Lumpur. Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said Iranian firms exhibited missile systems at the Defense Services Asia show that were "offensive" and contravened U.N. resolutions.
Najib told reporters Thursday that Malaysian authorities had "no option" but to tell Iran to leave.
The annual show began Monday with hundreds of exhibitors from about 50 nations.
Hmmmmm -
In all honesty the best defense IS a good offense, maybe they should argue that point when getting booted out.
(Not that I give a crap whether Iran gets kicked out or not, I’m just pointing out a well known fact....)
It was pretty funny going by the Iranian booth and seeing it completely walled off. I should have taken some pictures of it but forgot.
I wonder if they had any of their RFPs on display...
“Not surprisingly, there is a lot more to it than this. There were other things going on also that I don’t know if I should comment on here.”
I was wondering about this too....seems to be a ridiculous reason to expel an exhibitor.
BTW, does the UN really have a say in how arms shows are conducted?
Any carefully worded hint would be appreciated.
He is just living up to his screen name...
Espionage... diplomatic protests... Malaysia had no choice but to kick them out after some protests from various countries attending. I know it won't be popular for me to say this but France was one of the good guys on this one.
Well, they can neither buy or sell because of embargoes, so why should they be there? The big question is why were they allowed to book space to begin with? Floor space was ridiculously expensive and I hope they won't get a refund.
