Infanticide candidate for president
Jewish World Review ^ | April 24, 2008 | Nat Hentoff

I was once strongly inclined to vote for Barack Obama for president (assuming he won his party's nomination) based on his record as a community organizer in Chicago and in the Illinois state legislature. He's had nitty-gritty street experiences absent in the resumes of most aspirants for the Oval Office: He worked in poor neighborhoods to get job training for the unemployed and found ways to reach school dropouts. And in the legislature, he got a bill passed to mandate electronic police recording of interrogations in homicide cases. But then I learned Obama's voting record on abortion.

I am a nonreligious pro-lifer, my only religion being the Constitution. And I am not a single-issue voter, having often supported candidates who are pro-choice because I knew their civil liberties and civil rights records. For one example, I was a great admirer of the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan. (New York, where I live, has had no senators of his quality and principles since.)

Although Moynihan was pro-abortion, he strongly opposed partial-birth abortion, which he described as "only minutes away from infanticide," since the fetus (whom I regard as a human being) was already clearly among us.

I oppose extremists on all sides of issues, having, for instance, argued for hours with and against some so-called pro-lifers who considered part of their mission to commit violence, even homicide, where abortions were performed.

I admire much of Obama's record, including what he wrote in "The Audacity of Hope" about the Founders' "rejection of all forms of absolute authority, whether the king, the theocrat, the general, the oligarch, the dictator, the majority ... George Washington declined the crown because of this impulse."

But on abortion, Obama is an extremist. He has opposed the Supreme Court decision that finally upheld the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act

Nat Hentoff isn't voting for Obama due to his pro-life convictions.

. . .Lawrence Finer of the essentially pro-choice Gutmacher Institute (whose research is nonpartisan) said, in the interests of accuracy, that "Black women accounted for 37 percent of abortions performed in the United States in 2004" (the most recent year for which data are available). Is candidate Obama pleased those women were not "punished" with babies?

So Obama sees no connection between abortions and the declining numbers of Black Americans. He's awfully considerate about preserving their community by embracing all forms of abortion.

Well, let's see, the war on poverty has cost more than trillions of dollars—and we still have black people stuck in the welfare system the democrats love to maintain as is—and black women are killing a higher per capita number of their alive unborn children. But Barry Obama considers a baby to be punishment. If B. Hussein Obama’s reasoning is applied, the American people ought not be punished with any more democrats in office to promote the abortion slaughter of more black children per capita and more tax dollars wasted on a war that has no ‘exit strategy’. Liberalism is a disease killing our Republic and democrats are the vector for the contagion.

This is a great article to refer to the next time someone says that Mr. Obama is a nice guy/likeable/whatever.

People who (like Hentoff) don't recognize God, perhaps do recognize Him, after all, in one of His disguises: that of the innocent child, created in the image and likeness of God.

As Jesus Christ said about Nathaniel: "Behold, a true Israelite, in whom there is no guile."(John 1:47)

So thank you for posting an article from my Favorite Atheist of All Time, Nat Hentoff.

"Whoever receives a little child such as this, receives Me; and receives, not just Me, but the One who sent Me."

What the hell is a “community organizer” anyway? It’s another meaningless liberal fluff word, like “diversity” or “having a dialogue.”

There are declining numbers of blacks? Has anyone informed the democratic party? My God, they’ll have a malfarction to know that their voting base is declining. Wonder if this will make them into pro lifers?

a community organizer is your friendly neighborhood propagandist. Indefatigble loud mouth who keeps spouting the same mindless party drivel until more people believe it.
