Addressing a news conference in Washington, Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Friday, April 25, the Pentagon is planning for potential military courses of action against Iran. He spoke of the Tehran governments increasingly lethal and malign influence in Iraq. A conflict with Iran would be extremely stressing he said, but not impossible and it would be a mistake to think that we are out of combat capability. The admiral stressed the reserve capabilities of the Navy and Air Force.
Adm. Mullens statement came four days after US defense secretary Robert Gates said he favored keeping the military option against Iran on the table given the destabilizing policies of the regime and the risks inherent in a future Iranian nuclear threat either directly or through proliferation.

This tells me all I need to know about the story:

Hey Debka, Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is not a soldier.
Why don’t you post about the plans to invade Antartica.
This is the biggest repeating non-story around.
The five-sided rubber-room has three functions:
1. Buy weapons and equipment.
2. Plan for any and all contingencies.
3. House excess officers.
Of course, there are plans for Iran. There are also plans for the moon. Does not mean we plan to impliment them anytime soon. Most just gather dust until their next update is due.

CAN YOU SAY “STOPPED CLOCK SYNDROME”?
Thank you.
Precisely, and the big story is not the "plans", it's the finger pointing which in my opinion is 4 years too late (same with Syria arming insurgents).
More vigorous US threats and actions on those fronts back in 2003/04 and things would be much different today. Fingering Iran with Bush set to leave in months is borderline "lame".
With the price of gas sky rocketing the window for action against Iran has passed Bush by —he waited too long
yeah, I know its debka. but there are 3 articles I found on fr saying the same thing.
International Herald Tribune; "Top U.S. military officer assails Iran's role in Iraq"

The fact Petraeus just got promoted to Centcom Commander and we fired on Iranian speedboats harassing one of our freighters should not be dismissed too quickly.....Bush is finally putting Iran is on the bubble.
Something is seriesly wrong with DEBKA: they are late to the market with this merchandise. It’s a bunch of hooey anyway.
Debka always deserves to be trashed out of hand. Just because they sometimes guess right doesn't mean that they are a reliable source.
