US forces have killed a leading military commander in Al-Qaeda and three of his aides in an air strike in Saladdin district, according to an Iraqi police source on Saturday.
The source told KUNA that the US forces targeted the car that the operatives were driving with a missile, and identified the commander as Mohammad Muzahem Al-Harbouni.
The operation took place 25 km east of Sammara.

One good thing about AQ is they have lots of job openings and short times to be promoted.

Just bury them in the belly of a pig, that will deter them from joining up, knowing that to die for AQ means you are doomed for all eternity, no virgins and do not collect $200.

The best part is the insurgents were probably taken out by a 19-21 year old sensor operator sitting in a trailer in Nevada.
Those videos should be broadcast throughout Iraq. I suggest using that catchy jingle the phone comany used to use, “Reach out. Reach out and touch someone.”
Sometimes i can’t help myself and I’ll listen to NPR. Some doofus reporters? was interviewing a Brit soldier. She was having a coniption over hearing that the Iraqis in his area were thrilled with how thing were going. She must have hit him with three different questions asking basically the same thing. She couldn’t keep her voice straight. Talk about impartiality /sarc. I can’t believe they aired the segment.

I have long thought that NPR can't possibly realize how transparent their biases are - and if comments like yours were only forwarded to them, they might, ahhh, moderate(?) their coverage.
Then I think of Bill Moyers and some of the other lefties on the air.... and come to the conclusion..probably a waste of time!

I don’t think it involves the kind of intel you’re thinking of. We have Reapers cruising areas for up to 14 hours. It’s simply a question of looking for bad guys toting RPGs and trying to plant IED’s. Once they’re spotted it’s instant annihlation.
That’s the big beef Gates has with the Air Force. With the Reapers we have the ability to make any area a terrorist free zone. The Air Force needs to stop treating the progam like a redheaded step child. Pilots that look down on Reaper pilots need to have their attitude adjusted and the program should be expanded a hundredfold.
How do you say “It sucked to be me in Arabic or Persian?” and “I died for nothing and all my family got was this stupid T-shirt”

AFP report...
Police say top Qaeda militant killed in Iraq
**********************************************
16 hours ago
SAMARRA, Iraq (AFP) US forces have killed a top militant from the Al-Qaeda in Iraq group and three accomplices -- one a Saudi Arabian -- in the centre of the country, a local police officer said on Saturday.
Mohammed Jahim al-Harbuni, an Iraqi, was killed on Friday in the Al-Jillam district northeast of the central town of Samarra, Captain Ala Jassim said.
The other two dead were also Iraqis, he said.
Harbuni was the operational head of the jihadist group in Salaheddin province, Jassim said.

It is interesting that al Maliki opted to shut down the Sadr movement ahead of schedule, while we (US forces) were still busy trying to flush out the last bastions of AQ. In hindsight, it is equally as interesting that we now seem to have a two front (not geographic, but two enemies) battle going on and seem to be haveing success at both. This two front strategy might actually work.
For whatever reason, al Maliki seems to have found a reason to get tough with Muqtada al Sadr. Perhaps it is Sistani's willingness to support the government, but whatever the reason, we might just see success sooner rather than later.

Will remaining cells of AQIR stay in the area or gravitate northward. The rope will continue to tighten on their ability to function other then just hide in some buildings to survive.
HUMIT will continue to improve.
