31 of 53 teen girls at FLDS ranch are pregnant or had baby

By MICHELLE ROBERTS, Associated Press Writer 2 minutes ago

More than half the teen girls taken from a polygamist compound in west Texas have children or are pregnant, state officials said Monday.

A total of 53 girls between the ages of 14 and 17 are in state custody after a raid 3 1/2 weeks ago at the Yearning For Zion Ranch in Eldorado. Of those girls, 31 either have children or are pregnant, said Child Protective Services spokesman Darrell Azar. Two are pregnant now, CPS officials have said in court; it was unclear whether either of those two already have children.

"It shows you a pretty distinct pattern, that it was pretty pervasive," he said.

State officials took custody of all 463 children at the ranch controlled by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, saying a pattern of teen girls forced into underage "spiritual" marriages and sex with much older men created an unsafe environment for the sect's children.

Under Texas law, children under the age of 17 generally cannot consent to sex with an adult. A girl can get married with parental permission at 16, but none of these girls is believed to have a legal marriage under state law.

State officials said earlier that they had found girls who were pregnant or had children of their own at the ranch, but they had not provided more than rough estimates until Monday.

Church officials have denied that any children were abused at the ranch and say the state's actions are a form of religious persecution.

How do these statistics differ from some of the Democrat-stronghold inner cities?

...because I don't see the same rush in the inner cities to separate mothers from their children.

No cheers unfortunately, no winners here.

Isn't moral equivalence a liberal tactic?

This was not teenagers acting irresponsibly; it was an ongoing conspiracy to commit aggravated sexual assault on a child and welfare fraud.

Horribly true, whereas Planned Parenthood is mass statutory rape by proxy, with an optional murder chaser.

These statistics differ because the innercity girls are usually pregnant by their near-the-same-age boyfriends, and the normally entered willingly into the sex.

The FLDS girls were bred and brainwashed to be child brides to men old enough to be their fathers and grandfathers. They are given no option (except damnation).

That said I believe we should vigorously prosecute the statutory rapists of the inner city girls.

Get one of those perverts near me and I'll show him some freaking persecution. I really REALLY feel sorry for those girls. And it pisses me off that their mothers (and I'm assuming their mothers are there too) would let that happen. I can guarantee you that if some 50 year old jerkoff started leering at my daughter he'd get an earful.

Wait a minute. The article said “Two of those are pregnant now, he said; it was unclear whether either of those two already have children.” Unclear? They don’t know? Are the pregnant girls 14 or 17?

Sorry, but a 17 year old girl is NOT A CHILD. It’s different if she is 14 or 15, but they make no provisions for the difference in age. That’s only one of the problems with the socialist totalitarian methods going on here. I was a 17 year old (married) mother over 50 years ago. What did I do, break some damn law? Nobody thought so.

There is a serious issue of child abuse here, as most of us can see, but the government agents of all stripes handling it are committing serious abuses of rights themselves. The frenzied media is throwing stuff at us that we don’t know is right, and their agenda is succeeding. Most people are falling right in line. Which of our churches or religious groups is going to be next? Do we care about the precedents being set? We’d better.

It would be interesting if any are legally married since Texas recently raised the legal age from 14 to 16.

If the US had kept the Mexico it conquered in 1848, I wonder if 13 would be considered age of consent as it is there today?

Just a guess of course but... If they took a survey within an area in a half mile radius of my house they would find a lot more early teen mothers and/or pregnant teens than the found in the compound. No one seems interested since it is a cultural thing. Having a fifteen year old “old maid” is a family crisis in some circles. CPS won’t touch that.

Probably very different when compared as to whether it was a voluntary act or was the girl forced into by some older person as a spiritual bride.

No need to be harsh. I live in SF. I counseled at a crisis pregnancy center for over three years. Most teens/young women, by their own claims, were pregnant by boyfriends at the same or near to their age.

We were required by law to report anything different. In the three years I worked there, we reported two.

If you can’t see the difference between an “urban” teen getting pregnant by another teen and a situation where you have systemic abuse by middle-aged adult men, then you need help.

Hey if you know of an inner city teenager being impregnated by an adult male report it.

And I also don’t believe that inner city teenagers popping out babies do so because if they don’t and by marrying a 50 year old man their church pastor condemns them to hell.

Yes, and compare what the title says compared to the “two of those are pregnant now” the title makes one think there are 31 pregnant now. Earlier articles said the CPS workers found over 25 pregnant teens- which was the catalyst for taking all the children. I am confused!!

If the child abuse (sexual and other) is true then folks need to be going to jail- but what is coming out now is not matching what came out earlier. hmmmm. I hope this is just the media making mistakes and not authorities being heavy handed when there might have been other/better ways to handle this mess.

I LOVE the precedent being set. Hopefully when a Muslim community tries the same widespread practice of brainwashing, child rape and welfare fraud other states will go after them just as hard.

If you don't want the government taking your children don't put them on welfare and raise them to be raped by old sleazes who will impregnate them to put them on welfare and live off the checks.

Three cheers for the Great State of Texas!

Your answer makes no sense- DNA testing will not tell us how many pregnant teens there were when authorities took the children. As far as I know CPS did not do Gyn exams before taking the children either. What does that have to do with the difference in what CPS had to say about all the pregnant girls they saw when they first went in *reason for them taking children* vs now saying there are two pregnant at this time?

When the children were taken it was yelled from the rafters that many/over 25/35/half of the teens were pregnant when CPS workers went in, some/many as young as 12. Now the story is changing, the question I have is WHY?

>>”The frenzied media is throwing stuff at us that we don’t know is right, and their agenda is succeeding. Most people are falling right in line.”<<

There is a large group here at FR that certainly are, as you pointed out, “falling right in line” swallowing every rumor and “what if”, “I heard” etc. report made available.

They'll be here soon. Prepare yourself to be called a baby killer, child molester, rapist and defender of the Flds. They do not listen to reason and have become fanatical wild-eyed hysterical “Mormon-haters”, even though they can't absorb the fact that Flds are NOT LDS. They hate me for trying to point that fact out to them.

>>”Do we care about the precedents being set? We’d better.”<<

Full agreement with your statement above!! This group has no time to listen to reason and are ready to hang every person that has a penis. I believe they not only hate Mormons (LDS), but hate men in general, if you know what I mean.

Good luck.

This attitude might explain the articles I have seen lately about 30-50 *children* living with their parents, because they can’t make it on their own...I agree 17 is not a child, even 16 is not really a child.
