I’m also all for keeping money out of the hands of the Saudis, Venezuela, Iran and Russia. I think real patriots should be reducing consumption and developing alternatives. With freedom comes responsibility. I do not see this emphasized enough by Freepers.

The gasoline tax also funds roads: do we want to pay tolls every time we leave our driveways? Or are we going to borrow more from the Chinese to repair our roads, or just let potholes take years off our cars? Think, people!

Exactly! And not from the “global warming” hysteria point of view either. Progress means advancement in efficiency, and until we get that, we should be finding ways to tap supplies with the smallest environmental impact possible (it just makes good sense from a steward's standpoint).

Not only does it grow the economy and make people's lives better, but it also makes the ethical lives better. No one disputes that is important to our future generations.

Additionally, no, I'd prefer not to pay a toll ever 5 miles, but I would like to see our dollars spent better on new roads and repairs than wasted away in social programs.
