Conservatives Coming Together For McCain: Why?

Recent polling indicates that the GOP is uniting behind our nominee, John McCain, that's the good news.

Why are conservatives coming home? First and foremost are the key issues. McCain can be trusted on national security given his background, experience and judgment, especially compared to the Democratic options.

Second, McCain has been reliable in judicial appointments and has made clear he will appoint "judges who ... faithfully apply the law as written..."

Third, McCain has a good pro-life record, except for stem cell funding.

Fourth, McCain is tough on earmarks and runaway federal spending.

Fifth, McCain will appoint more competent cabinet members to set policy than the Democrats.

Sixth, McCain understands the power of tax cuts and pro-business tax reform.

Seventh, McCain has good ideas on energy relief and policy. He believes we should stop filling the U.S. petroleum reserve, which leading oil economists blame for much of the recent price run-up by aiding speculation. He has more good ideas in this area, but this is a good start.

Contrast these ideas with what Hillary and Obama have in mind for us.

Uh, I don’t think so unless he comes up with a very conservative VP. Even then the GOP won’t be voting for McAmnesty but for the VP.

I think it is the same group of oil economists that want to extract the oil from Peanut and Jelly sandwiches.

Nothing but Kool-Aid for the drones.

True conservatives recognize McCain for the Democrat that he is.

The reserves are running at 97%. I think we can take a break on them for a while. Not necessarily cut them down but take a break on adding to them and thereby lessening the amount of government competing with the private market.

Here is but one more reason of many why I won’t pull for McInsane.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2009828/posts

He will criticize a sitting Republican president but nary a bad word about Hussein or Hillary. The man is a senile, pandering buffoon.

We kicked but in the war the hiccup came in the aftermath and I challenge any hind-sight QB to do better.

My thought is......

the lesser of two (three) evils. McCain isn’t the best from a conserative standpoint, but look at the competition. Hillary or Obama. I’d rather have McCain.

Face it, a third party candidate will not be able to do more than cause one of the two major parties to lose (like Perot did to the Republicans).

I don’t like a lot about McCain, but given the choice between him or HillBama, I’m voting McCain.

If the race is McCain & Obama then McCain will win without conservative votes. If the race is McCain and Hillary then McCain may well lose without conservative votes.

Understand, he fired a broadside at conservatives with McCain-Feingold and the people who are the ideological conservatives who go out and knock on doors, staff phone banks, and do the typical footwork of GOP campaigns just will not be there for McCain because he just hasn't been there for us.

I used to distribute the Christian Coalition Voter Guide, something that McCain-Feingold was meant to prohibit. The man simply isn't my friend and I don't owe my vote to someone who acts to subvert my freedoms.

And I am not the only one who feels this way.

Yeah...heard someone on this today...the government buys oil at high prices and puts it in reserves and basically never releases it. Oil Economists argue that buying at the “top” is dumb..as it just contributes to shortages and runs the prices up even further.

So, conservatives are being asked to sign-off on the mavarick-moderate John McCain. Hmmm. A solid conservative choice for a runningmate would help JohnnyMac get the votes of many on the right. We shall see.

One thing is certain. Our military forces and those fighting the WOT on the frontlines deserve better than Obama or Hillary as their CIC/POTUS.

Conservatives cannot afford to lose the WH for 4-8 years-so the compromise is a strong VP who will hopefully be a contender in 4 years.

Strong conservatives need to put McCain in a full-nelson and hold his feet to the fire-otherwise we may as well have a far-left liberal in office.

I know we are talking about a risky position, but what esle are we to do? Vote for a 3rd party loser and insure the far-left walks in w/o a fight? Abstain out of principle? Yet another vote for the far-left....

The one or two serious conservatives (not Guiliani or the other guy-forget his name all of a sudden) are out of the race or un-electable for a variety of reasons.

America is at a cross-roads (again); we need as a nation to decide whether our freedom is more important than our pocket book or play toys, and whether or not the rule of law is the strandard we will continue under.

Illegals should be either incarcerated or deported, no other option according to the law.
I do believe with all my heart that is the issue.

Everyonne seems to want “freedom and rights” but no responsibility to pay the bills, regardless of whether it is military service, community invovlement, raising our own children etc.

Rant off.

God Bless

Conservatives are uniting behind McCain because there is no one else they CAN unite behind. This year even more than in 2000 or 2004 the democrat alternatives are simply and utterly unacceptable.

That said I have to say, yet again, that the current crop of candidates is the worst I can recall.

Yes, the 'GOP' may be uniting behind him, but I conservatives aren't.

Why are conservatives coming home? First and foremost are the key issues. McCain can be trusted on national security given his background, experience and judgment, especially compared to the Democratic options.

National security includes closing Guantanamo, ending waterboarding, giving more deference to our 'allies' and the UN?

Second, McCain has been reliable in judicial appointments and has made clear he will appoint "judges who ... faithfully apply the law as written..."

And will uphold his illegal, unconstitutional Campaign Finance Reform? The Courts have already starting chipping away at that turd.

Third, McCain has a good pro-life record, except for stem cell funding.

McCain has a spotty pro-life record. And he is not in favor of Constiturional Amendment to end infantacide.

Fourth, McCain is tough on earmarks and runaway federal spending.

This guy has proposed plenty of worthless spending in his career. And he plans on spending many, many, many billions to fight a fictional global warming.

Fifth, McCain will appoint more competent cabinet members to set policy than the Democrats.

Hopefully. But I can see a gaggle of dems in cabinet posts as well. Maybe he'll get his best bud Lindsey as head of DHS, so we can look fondly back on Chertoff

Sixth, McCain understands the power of tax cuts and pro-business tax reform.

I seem to remember him playing the class envy card and voting no on Bush's tax cuts.

Seventh, McCain has good ideas on energy relief and policy. He believes we should stop filling the U.S. petroleum reserve, which leading oil economists blame for much of the recent price run-up by aiding speculation. He has more good ideas in this area, but this is a good start.

McCain is as green as a democrat. Global Warming BS, no drilling in ANWR, no fluorescent lightbulbs, higher cafe standards, etc etc

Contrast these ideas with what Hillary and Obama have in mind for us.

Hard to tell the difference, frankly.

I’m no McCain fan but the prospect of an entire Federal Court system stocked full of Jerimiah Wrights will have me walking over glass to hold my nose and vote for him.

Actually, I'm holding the so-called "Republican" droids responsible for putting a Democrap with an (R) hanging around its neck as the front runner. Screw 'em.
