Servers cost money.

That's it for the most part. You wouldn't believe all the high tech equipment that Jim has installed. Had to keep adding servers over and over. Those things are not cheap. Besides, Jim and John run this behometh day and night 365. Don't they deserve some compensation for all the work they do? Jim is not a well man. He is disabled and Free Republic is his life's work. I happen to believe that this site has contributed more to the conservative movement in America than anything. It has managed to stay pretty much under the radar, probably because Jim does not accept ads. It's worth every penny we can dig up to contribute, and then some. I gave up a couple of magazine subscriptions for FR because I get a lot more good and use out of FR than a dozen magazines. I donate monthly and extra during Freepathons, and never miss it. I'm on a fixed income and retired. I hope everyone will donate something. Frankly, I think if they come to this site for news and conversation and don't contribute, they are freeloaders, moochers, deadbeats, not nice people. JMHO
