The 6-year-old girl is recuperating at a state-run hospital in Mathura, the north Indian city where the alleged attack occurred, said Dr. Ramesh Kumar.
She is considered a dalit _ a member of the lowest caste in India, where a system of rigid social hierarchy still lingers. The alleged attacker, Madan Singh, 22, comes from a higher caste.

Sounds like the bitter rural nut was mad at the trespasser for trespassing in his property.
I assume the encounter went like this:
- Stop! You tresspassing in my property!
- But I need food! My mom is sick and my dad is an alcoholic!
- What caste are you little girl?
- Why, dalit of course!
- My, my, a dalit trespassing in my property!
*picks up the girl and throws her in the burning cow dung pile*
