Will Danica Patrick Be The First Female F1 Driver? (No Hot Rodham Jinx Please)
Auto Racing Daily ^ | May 3, 2008

Jenson Button could end up with a female team-mate before very long.

His Honda boss has offered talks to pint-sized American racer Danica Patrick after she made history in the Indy Racing League series.

Patrick made her IndyCar debut in 2005, however, it was not until three years later, driving for Andretti Green Racing, that she claimed her first victory, winning the Indy Japan 300 and thereby becoming the first woman to win an IndyCar race.

The American is now hoping to test her skills in Formula One, admitting that she would relish a ‘proper’ test with one of the teams.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a real, proper test.

“I was asked to do a demonstration lap at Indy in 2005, and I said, ‘No way. You’re making me a show. That’s embarrassing.’ But I would say that a real test is absolutely something I would do.”

Some competitors are complaining about Danica weighing only 100 pounds, but she obviously has been blessed with a divine distribution of her remarkable mass.

I follow both racing series.

I think a test would be a good step.

I doubt she would make it as a starter in F1, but you never know. But it would be a lot of fun to watch if she could run with the folks in that circuit!

Another female driver made history this past week, Ashley Force became the first woman to win an NHRA event in Funny Car. The cool thing is she beat her dad,John Force ,in the final round. She is also the points leader in that class.

There's something disconcerting about women who want to be treated as "one of the guys" who then strip down for sexy mostly naked shots that capitalize on their femaleness.

As far as I can see, that's wanting your cake and eating it too.

Fine with me, I'm sick of open wheel divas taking up space in NASCAR.

(After tonight Carpentier can stay, Fernandez would be welcome, Ambrose and Francitti (sp?) seem like decent guys...but, and it's time to cap it and go back to working up from short tracks)

Apart from the whole killing herself thing? F1 is unforgiving. If the car doesn't kill her, the expectation of perfection will.

This is a ridiculous question; either a trick, or, I suspect, extremely uninformed.

NO, Danica Patrick will NOT be the first female F1 driver, not because of lack of talent, but because WE’VE ALREADY HAD THE FIRST FEMALE F1 DRIVER. 50 years ago in fact.

Maria Teresa de Filippis (who raced 1958 - 1959); more successful was Lella Lombardi 1974 - 1976, and others have tried - Divina Galica (1976 - 1978), Desiré Wilson (1979) and Giovanna Amati 1992 .

She could become the latest, but seriously, is she the most talented driver not to be in F1? Or even in the IRL?

this babe is all style over substance and certainly doesn't appear to have the physical strength to drive in F1 let alone the talent or expierence

.

Are you serious? yes - only because she's a role model for girls just being introduced to the sport - does everything have to be sluttified ? does every thing have to degrade to crotch shots?

glad we agree on Tony - he's a lard and a whiner

LOL. Danica drives open wheel and excels. Many Indy car and open wheel racers have gone the NASCAR route and dominated. No NASCAR driver has ever been able to come to Indy and even qualify for the race. Or perhaps you were referring to looks in which case.......never mind.

Look, just be a straight talker.

I think women who sexualize everything they do are skanks. What do you call them? Something PC?

Skank
Function: noun
Date: 1964
slang : a person and especially a woman of low or sleazy character

She is a race car driver not an accountant. Sheis also something of a celebrity. Being sexy is part of it.

You know zero about her character. Now if she were bedding down with all the other drivers I might agree.

But theres nothing wrong with a well known car driver having glamour photos.

Unless you have some ax to grind.
