Jon Voight to pay Sderot a solidarity visit

Oscar winner Jon Voight is coming to Israel next week for his first solidarity visit to salute the Jewish state in honor of its 60th birthday.

World-renowned for his roles in "Midnight Cowboy," "Coming Home," "Deliverance," "Mission Impossible," "Ali and National Treasure," among others, Voight will welcome Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl’s (CCOC) 80th rescue mission airlifting children from irradiated regions in Ukraine, Belarus and Western Russia to Israel; visit Sderot, which has endured 7,000 Hamas missiles and numerous casualties; comfort terror victims; and, go to Yad Vashem.

“I’m coming to salute, encourage and strengthen the people of Israel on this joyous 60th birthday,” said Voight. “This week is about highlighting Israel as a moral beacon. At a time when its enemies threaten nuclear destruction, Israel heals.

"Israel is a haven from nuclear horrors for thousands of Chernobyl survivors who suffer the consequences of the worst environmental disaster in history. I personally want to welcome the youngsters aboard Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl’s 80th Rescue Mission—it is a great honor to help save a child’s life.”

Giving back to society has long been a priority for Voight, having volunteered with and contributed to numerous charities and causes at home and abroad. His deep humanitarian values direct him to Sderot and to Chabad’s Terror Victims Project (CTVP).

“I want to meet the people of Sderot,” said Voight. “I want to tell them: ‘Every day you have rockets falling on your city. We care about you. We have not forgotten you!’ And I want to underscore Israel’s magnificent contributions to mankind.”

Voight will also attend President Shimon Peres’ Presidential Conference: “Facing Tomorrow.”

CCOC, a non-profit organization established by the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1990, has airlifted 2,500 children to Israel. The children live in Kfar Chabad, Israel, where they receive medical care, education, and support. Most CCOC alumni settle in Israel following the eventual aliyah of their parents.

He’s also a fan of Glen Beck.

I will have to disagree.

While Voight may be ‘OK’ on this issue, he has a long standing past of leftist actions which speak much louder than these few words.

Did you ever see the worthless movie Coming Home? - he stars with Comrade Jane.

He gave virtually NO child support, nor support of any kind, to his daughter - who dislikes him very much. Now that she is doing well, he tries to cling to HER. Voight is just an opportunist.

In a way, your intemperate calumny validates the praise upon Mr. Voight.

Go look up the term slander, in particular false lights. And the answer is yes, you did in fact slander Mr. Voight, imo. Yet as you well know — such slander is unlikely to be legally actionable as he is a public figure.

Tell me how I slandered John Voight.

He was in a very anit-war anti-US movie called Comming Home and he starred with Jane Fonda.

Where is the slander?

He has a daughter who does not like him - her name is Angelina Jolie. Watch a biography on her and you will realize that, yet again I am relating a fact. No slander there.

John Voight has tried to attach himself to Angelina Jolie since she has become famous, and she has rebuffed him. Where is the slander.

Now it it time for you to move on, as I am most certainly through wasting my valuable time you.

None of that calumny is pertinent to the thread. You brought a grudge — a bag of s-it — and say “Smell this!”.

Hey Nut Job.

You accused me of slander.

I proved my point with facts - it is not slander.

Rather then admit that you are wrong in your accusation against me, now you say my slander is not pertinent to the thread.

This makes you, in my opinion a Nut Job.

And more than a bit egregious.

In detail. A friend of mine came to a town meeting. As the meeting came to the subject he wanted to address -- some point of zoning law -- the chairman of the board rebuked him with a calumnity, a slander. It was true, but a slander nonetheless. It is known as false lights.

My friend had lost his temper with a secretary in the zoning office, he had made some intemperate and profane remarks to her -- since she was only a secretary, it was not fair to her in any case. This had happened weeks prior to the meeting and my friend had already long ago apologized. Moreover all that phone incident was a private matter.

Nevertheless the Chairman publicly rebuked my friend -- before my friend had a chance to speak on the issue at hand. Yet what the chairman said WAS ALL TRUE.

Still, by making that TRUE accusation the Chairman had slandered my friend in two ways. One was that he brought public shame upon my friend for a private matter. The second -- and this is the "false lights" -- he ruined to a good and potent degree the chance of a fair hearing to my friend's remarks upon the zoning issue. The chairman was like one of those shore-operating pirates who would hang false signal lights along the shore to lure ships and cargo into shoals and shallows to be wrecked and stranded.

False lights slander.
