http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/quickfacts/quickoil.html

says 388 million gallons per day, among 300+ million people.

But hey, even if you walk to the grocery store, you are using on average, somewhat more than 1 gallon per day. For the average American family that’s about 30 dollars per month.

The real flaw in his argument is that it ignores the fact that Hillary’s plan just taxes the oil companies to replace the tax paid by the consumer.

What, exactly, do they expect the corporations to do? Ultimately, all corporate business taxes are paid by consumers, and a rise in corporate tax rates will be passed along in the form of higher prices.

So let me get this correct the government taking three trillions dollars a year is not enough, they need the gas tax also for the three months?

agree...the amount of federal gas tax paid is inconsequential to most people over a 3/6 month period. However it is not inconsequential to the Federal Highway Funds and the infrastructure it funds. Whether his math is right or wrong he is on the right side of this issue (regretfully McCain is not).

I am sorry, but he is not on the right side of this issue. He should be trying to bring taxes down permanently, not just on Gas but on everything. Instead he will tax the he** out of "big oil", meaning the consumer, and cost us even more than we are paying now.

Here is the deal with lowering the gas tax, saving 18 cents on the Gas is just part of it. Diesel tax is 24 cents per gallon. When you count in the miles driven by truckers to deliver food and other goods(not to mention diesel electric trains)then you are talking about not just the money saved directly on gas for the average person, but the money saved on goods, the prices of which have skyrocketed because of higher fuel prices. Some independent truckers are going belly up because of the cost of fuel.

You want to lower the deficit? Then have the little communist talk about cutting spending.

The main reason the marxist SOB is wrong is because he has no plans for cutting taxes or spending. He is using this tax issue to keep the money flowing into the coffers as long as possible. The Dems have never seen a tax cut they like, or a tax hike they don't like. Nothing this clown does is on the "right side" of any issue.

Oh, yes one more thing. Gas taxes don't go to the "infrastructure" they go into the general fund and are allocated as the government sees fit and very little of the tax taken in on fuel goes to highways.

That is why our highways are in such a deplorable shape in many parts of the country despite the millions taken in by gas taxes, both state and federal.

That’s not the point...it is relief for the people paying current gasoline prices and whether it is responsible. You will get no argument from me that the government takes in too much revenue and spends on unconstitutional programs. Having said that one could argue that Article 1 section 8 of the Constitution allows for this tax to be collected. What they do with the rest of it is a totally different question.

Please don’t misinterpret what I’m saying. Both McCain and Hillary are shilling for a 3/6 month gas tax moratorium and they are just wrong. The effect “most” consumers get for this effort is negligible. It is just a sham. That is where I agree (regretfully) with Obama. Just to be clear, if Hillary was opposed to this I believe Obama would have come out for it.

The whole thing is political. You said the “he should be trying to bring down taxes permanently...” I concur he will not only not do that but he will raise them through the roof. He has never campaigned on lowering taxes. We don’t disagree on this point.

On this ONE issue I believe he is right.
