Haleigh Poutre update...

Once again, "The Republican" comes through with the latest regarding Haleigh. The story is lengthy and complete, hence the excerpting.

.................................

SPRINGFIELD - Haleigh Poutre, the little girl whose case sparked an overhaul of the state's system of oversight in incidents of child abuse and neglect, will not be required to testify at the upcoming trial of the man accused of abusing her three years ago.

Superior Court Judge Judd J. Carhart ruled this week that the now 14-year-old Haleigh, still undergoing treatment for a severe brain injury, will neither be ordered to testify at the trial of her stepfather Jason A. Strickland nor at a pre-trial competency hearing. The judge ruled in favor of two lawyers appointed to safeguard the girl's interests and the state Department of Children and Families who argued that forcing Poutre to testify would harm her.

He wrote that a psychological examination of Haleigh was performed in March and April by a doctor at Franciscan Children's Hospital in Boston where she is now being treated.

"Based on the results of the evaluation, it has been recommended that Haleigh not be subjected to additional interviews, including testimony before the court," Franco wrote. Citing a number of examples of case law, Franco said it is apparent that testimony by Haleigh would be detrimental to her psychological well-being.

"Haleigh is a 14-year-old child who is psychologically younger than her years," Franco wrote.................

They kept their promise...

Especially in light of my first post this morning, the L.A. Times just has to bring up the subject of Terri afresh. Some criticize us here for constantly keeping the story of Terri on the front burner. But it is the left, the far left, carrying this burden for their actions, constantly reminding us.

Alas, I can only excerpt here when I would love to post the entire article in its pristine evil wrap. It even goes so bold as to post an image of Terri's grave marker with the guilt of Mikey emblazoned on it, his brag of success.

..................................

The very public death of Terri Schiavo began a rush on requests for the paperwork needed to order a good death with dignity. People lit up the phone lines of places like Aging with Dignity, asking for information on living wills.

At about that time, a team of researchers from UC San Francisco and the San Francisco VA Medical Center were interviewing 117 people about their end-of-life wishes and their feelings about advance directives, the legal documents which spell out people's desires. Turns out, they weren't so interested in the laws and specifics of advance directives, but they were eager to talk about Terri Schiavo....

Lessons from Terri Schiavo

"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."
